My son and I started the project probably 8 months ago now working on it when time allowed. We sorted out the general issues and was able to make up a modified distributer from a datsun, and sourced a very light aluminium flywheel. We also managed to convert the tacho to electronic by purchasing a cheap'o and swapping the internals.
This engine is just the trial it has stock internals linished and balanced, gas-flowed head, 4.5kg aluminum flywheel, ceramic coated extractors 4-2-1 with 2.5" system. The variable inlet timing has been removed and fully advanced.
It runs on 'worked' weber DCOE 40's at the moment with larger main jet and venturi's bored and electric fuel pump. The MSD ignition makes the explosions, we hashed this up on the bench to sort out our twin coil problem, and it throws a spark about 50mm long! I strongly recommend the use of one on any motor for that.
Suspension:
Uprated springs 600mm ride height, koni's all round, adjustable top control arms (neg camber), 15X7 modified alfa rims 205 50 rubber.
Brakes:
Brembo fronts, vented rotors.
Started her the first time on sunday and fired first pop! We figured it would have to with all that spark and carbs pumping the gas in.
Took it for a drive the first time yesterday to bed the rings in, hate doing this to a new motor . Its only done 10km's so far but it is so responsive and the torque is outstanding. Still need to fine tune the advance curve on the distributer and play with the carbs but all in all very happy with the outcome and a very fun project.
Now for the high spec race motor will keep you informed
And ' RossoGTV4Me' the prancing horse features on all of our some ten odd alfa's and is mainly inspired by my other baby.

i love the way you routed the spark wires. looks like a prewar inline 8C !
interesting location for the MSD box. does it get in the way of changing the fuel filter ?

So what is the story on the turrets (underneath the jet cover) on the Weber carbs?

thanks for the comments, it seemed to work out quite well for the MSD there keeps the engine bay clean and its nice and close to the coils, mainly we didn't have to drill any extra holes. Had to turn up a couple of spacers though for the filter as you mentioned, although there is a pre-filter in the boot before the electric pump so shouldn't need to change it in a long time.
