Josh,

I incorrectly thought we had another 'gee I wish it was a Ferrari' owner, which really pee's me. IMO Alfa Romeo's proudly stand on their own.

When you think about Alfa Romeo designers, even at the time of the 105 series, they had a much harder time than those at Ferrari, because they had a much wider market to sell to and please. It's heaps easier to just design a limited sportscar ... and then cover all options with 'it's race track focus' bollocks. Thus the fact that the 105 series, saloons and all are such great little cars is a credit to them ... they are NOT just poor man's Ferrari (far from it).
Pete

Hello Again Dino246,

Thanks again for your response.

I have some lightened and forged connecting Rods for my TS, and I have decided to keep the stock compression and valve sizes, however I plan on having custom intake valves made with more efficient angles, and polish. I would not mind forged pistons as well, but it seems anyone making that currently are only offering more then 10:1 compression, and that seems like it might be pushing it for a street pump gas car...

I have custom headers made already that bolt to the stock exhaust, they are a set from Autocomponenti that took quite a bit for me to get...

Now Weber 45's are not cheap, and would almost cost me the price of a Megasquirt and two Weber Throttle bodies... But injectors and fuel pump add to the price so I understand that the 45's would be simpler to do, and more traditional, so I greatly appreciate your input here!

Thanks for your time!

Forgot to mention: I have not given any thought to the Cams yet. Not something I am looking forward too...
Dear Insoc, I am not sure what the stock cr is on the TS but it has to be close to 10:1 , but they are quite 'granny' like. I am running 40's at the moment and if your just keeping it as a tourer for the streets as it sounds as if you are, they work fine with 140 main jet and venturi's bored to 34mm if i remember correctly now.

Pete I have been tinkering with 105's since moses was a lad. I dont know who has been calling them a poor mans ferrari, but I quite prefer to drive my 105 than the dino.

Tim.

Well I believe they are ~150hp stock, and the injection is very restrictive on the std. motor. Still running the motor in so have not felt too much of it yet, although dropped it back to second the other day and it was quite eager to break loose on the 205’s with not that much throttle…

With mine breathing the way it is something in the order of 180hp. Its still quite retarded at the moment haven’t even looked at the distributor yet, to be honest I am rather impressed in how it is working hashed up to the alfa motor. Also in the process of sourcing some 45’s which should help the proceedings.

Cheers.

A bit off the subject, but anyone knows of the earliest TS -> 105 transplant done in Australia?? I put a TS into my 67 GTA replica in 1998. I had heard of a few people talking of doing it, but no one actually doing it until me.

I set out to alter the original car as little as possible. Fitted tacho drive, mechanical fuel pump onto the timing case, 45 mm delorttos, and hybrid recalibrated dual point Bosch dizzy with the usual Nissan cap and rotor. I adapted the custom set of 4-1 extractors from the 2000 engine that had been in the car to fit the new engine. The engine had stock cams and a mild port job. I will try to find an underbonnet picture at home to scan and post.

On the dyno compared to a standard 105 2000 GTV, the standard cars gave around 78 bhp RWHP, a TS 75 gave 92 RWHP and the TS in the 105 gave 106 RWHP. This was a bit down on the previous 2000 engine's 116 RWHP, but was much, much nicer for day to day use.

You should remember that the 148 bhp quoted by Alfa for the TS engine was running on 98 with no cat. The Aussie spec cars were probably around 140 bhp. My estimate that the engine in the car had around 165 bhp.

When I sold the car it had a Berlina Auto diff in it (3.3 from memory). The torque and flexibility was so good that I much preferred this gearing to the lower ratio diffs I had tried. You could give the car full throttle from 1500 rpm without any hesitation or stumble and it pull hard all the way to 7000 rpm.

Yer we used the nissan dist., what's left of it anyway... I believe Toyota also made a turbocharged TS, the 3T-GTE.

Cheers, Tim.

Sorry to wander of the subject a mo, we at Rossi eng in England fiitted Tspark motors into our race GTAm recreations way back in 1992 if I remember correctly they produced 205bhp at 7,800rpm --in a car that wheighed in at 700 kilos ,they were bloody quick!---look on the front cover of Jim ks old 105 tuning book, youll see my old Tspark motor.

105 GT TS Conversion

Love the GT TS conversion. Here's some pics of mine: '69 Scalino Jr/GTA replica. Still working on the jetting for the 45mm Webers but overall very nice balance & torque.
