Bombs Away!
D#*N!
A bomb went off in the Demon Spider recently!!! Joseph finally put the finishing touches on a very calculated explosive, planted it and ran!! When the dust settled, the Demon was relieved of all unecessary parts that the 3.7L heart won't be needing!!
Power steering pump, air con, knee bolsters, seats, rear panel, harness, computers, rad, seat belts, pedal box and the original steering box....all tossed!!
I was surprized to see a stamped manual shifter section on the roof of the tranny tunnel!! How convenient!
Now for the bad news. Joseph has just been called away to attend to some personal commitments and cannot complete my install However, he does have the remainder of the week to get the Demon up to speed for the engine's arrival. It looks like I'll be hitting a big wall but I do have a couple ideas to get me out of this situation. Afterall, the show MUST and WILL go on. On schedule. Contrary to what some.....may think. (not you Murray)
Joseph is presently wrapping up work to the driveshafts, tranny support & bell housing mod, beefed-up donut, rad position, engine mounts, steering box and ignition.
The engine??? Exactly...I've had so many dreams of running in slow-mo through the security doors at Toronto's main cargo airport and hugging it......(sorry. dreaming again ) Latest word on the street is that Johnny (JJ) has confirmed today of it's in air movement towards Toronto. It's all good!....Now if JJ could just get Monica Bellucci to pop out of the crate as well....now that...that would be the icing!!
Stay tuned...

Hi Michael,
What are your plans for the interior? I just hate the knee bolsters and the trim that runs down either side of the stick shift counsel on the S-4 Spiders and I have thought about switching them out to the S-3 version.

Interior Concept
Hey Murray,
Countdown must be "ON" for your spider, eh? Lucky bastard!! ...
Yeah those are some hideous knee bolsters alright? What purpose do they serve, but take up precious leg room...I have no idea. They came in at 13 lbs. Can you believe that??
As for the interior...I've got some really cool ideas Those knee bolsters...never liked them. The series 4 has such classy and elegant exterior lines but when it comes to the interior....you could scare small children with the way the lower dash bulges out and meets the center console, that useless center clip, the flimsy e-brake console that glove box door that never fails to warp in due time!!
I just had a meeting with my interior guy today and it looks like we'll probably be heading down the road of something MUCH more flowing. Everything from the 3 center vents down through the shifter bay, between the seats, under the e-brake, along with both driver and pass. dash areas will be fabricated. I'll keep the same angle of the original dash except have everything flow together.
Material wise? Probably black suade. I have a really trick Sparco wheel that has a mix of black suade, perf. leather and plain leather in it. The wheel has set off the theme, so having the center sections of both door panels in black suade as well will extend the new lower dash lines..thus surrounding the entire middle interior. It'll be like a big suade hug - very inviting!!
No ash tray, lighter or a/c switch. Just a hide-a-way door for the window switches, hazzard, defrost and heat controls. I like a minimalist look. Perf. leather shifter bag along with a perf. leather e-brake bag. This is where I'm headed but as it develops, things may change slightly.
Oh, if anyone is interested in a set of BRAND NEW Sparco race seats, you can PM me. They've never been used or mounted and are still in original bags. I bought them awhile back but changed my mind. I think they would look better in a coupe.
Behind them are the first shipments of parts that are now arriving daily for the Demon A few more boxes are expected next week, including a very important crate!!!!!

"Engine is now being tested, tuned and maped. Here are some details of the build:
3.7 litre specification including 100mm Ross Racing aluminium-alloy pistons, custom forged steel tapered wrist pins and double retainers, Total Seal Gapless/Standard Competition ring-set, forged, chrome-molly steel connecting rods from Pauter Machine
Brand-new, long-stroke, 3.2 litre 156/147 GTA crank and bearings.
Prepare block; including over-bore to receive brand new 120mm OD steel liners. "
Michael - I think you mentioned in your first post that it's a new 3.2 - is that right, a new complete 3.2 GTA engine or just the long-stroke crank and a used block? If new, what is the source? Are they still available new?
I'd also like to learn more about the head / exhaust / engine bay width.
Looks good, and it's going to sound great!
Thanks,

Vivace,
The block is not new - just seriously re-vamped with a 3.2L long-stoke GTA crank. If you're looking for one, it's real tough to source. You're best bet would be to contact JungleJustice himself. He can give you the heads up on whatever you may be interested in, in great detail.
As far the engine bay width...not a problem. I can't speak for anyone else that has attempted this conversion but my project has called for several mods that "fit" had to be addressed. That would include; swapping out the O.E steering box (non-PS), notched crossmember, custom mounts, reposition of rad supports, custom headers (I'm opting for equal length - ceramic coated), custom intakes, ect...
A retroft in your duetto would be sweet. Good luck and thanks for the comments.

Hi Streetfame!
thanks for the heads up on the thread.... just read it all, looks awesome! what a project ans what a car its gonna be when finished!
Your parts will leave Monday, all is in stock! My only concern so far is that if I have read correctly, you are retaining some form of propshaft rubber doughnut? I think this could be a big problem with the torque and power you have, last time I saw a doughnut breakup (even with a gta cage) it tore a hole in the floor, bent the gearbox mainshaft and in the process toasted most of the gears in the box!.... you should consider converting to a solid prop kit with a UJ on the front.
keep in touch and best of luck!

That was also a concern from the beginning. Fortunatley, I had Joseph bolt on a big, nasty one that he uses exclusively on all his race applications. Including a twin turbo 2L Spider S3 - pushing over 400bph with no problems!!
Thanks for sending the "gear". Can't wait for the install!!
Also, you guys will see the new steering box and arm retrofitted, new rad mounting points and a pic of the Demon in it's new home!!

I was thinking long-term 75 Verde GTA project! Duetto stays stock 1600 and skinny 15's.
How will your F/R weight balance be? I looked into the 2.6 Montreal in a clean '71 spider shell, but it won't fit below the hood with the intake horns.
Thanks.

A long term 75 would be a good option. It all depends on how far you want to take it. Power plant wise, I was more than satisfied with what Dawie personally built for me and I'd order another engine from him without hestitation.
My engine is just under 100 lbs heavier than the stock 2L the car came with. However, I knew this ahead of time which is why I decided to ditch the power steering, brake booster and a/c set-ups. As well as the stock lower dash, twin rad fans, cast iron manifolds, mass air flow meter, stock flywheel, cast rotors and calipers, ect. Those items alone tip the scales at well over 100 lbs - it's like I'm running with the stock engine weight....but with over 3 times the power!!
Add in the mix the RSRacing suspension, Alfaholics Watts Link and a surprize addition (TBA) front to back, to balance everything out and you're set! It'll be a monster!! Keep me updated on which route you decide to pursue!!
