this one?

Is a good point if your going to put something jap into it, why not go all out with the turbo on the rock solid SR20? Or was there a reason for this?

Why the S2000? Top reason is it generates the most HP/Liter
for a normally aspirated engine, along with high reliability, race
proven, etc etc. Also I get 6 gears to play with.
As far as the high reving, most Alfa's need to be reved way up
for the power as well, they just wont stay together at 9K
unless you build a race engine for a lot more that I paid for
my S2000 motor (I looked into this as well)
I also considered a twin spark, but the prices for the motors are
silly here in the states, and the availability of parts here in the
US is not good. I was quoted anywhere from $8-20K for a rebuilt
motor (no tranny, and not even new!!). I paid about $5K for a
2005 S2000 with wire harness, computer, header, tranny, front
suspension, & brakes. Just cant beat that price...
I do admit to ignorance of Nissan/Nismo products. I know the
Skyline is bad-***, but only in Japan, I also really like the Z
and the G35 coupe, but they are V6.
I love 510's, always wanted one of them when I was in college. I had
a buddy that put a 260Z motor and tranny into his 510, along with a
great suspension kit, it haulled ***!!

Reliabilty problems of K-series mainly due to lack of liner protusion at build and unbalanced flywheels. A complete tear down and proper build removes all reliability issues and gets serious power - 230bhp from a 1.8 weighing only 78kgs and over 250 bhp from a 2.0 weighing marginally over that. Of course the next significant engine that has taken over fromt he K-series for the UK small sports car market are Cosworth tuned Ford Duratec's - which I believe are very tastey! - Oh bugger - too many ideas and not enough time or money!

Oh such slowwww progresss.....
I have been welding up all tacked motor mounts and the tranny mount.
I also have been making all kinds of brackets for the floor pans and
the jacking points needed brackets as well since they used to be welded
to the floors as well as the sills. So lots of work, but little to show.
I also had to repair the spring housing walls, as I had cut into them
to try and fit the stock S2000 motor mounts, and had to punch a hole
in the lower A-arm frame mount to access the new motor mount bolts.
This actually worked out rather well by using a GreenLee 3/4" chassis punch.
I am using allen bolts on the motor mounts with the allen head portion of the
bolt facing down. This was the only way to keep the hole on the a-arm
mount reasonably small, and still access it with an allen, with the lower
a-arm attached. The top nut will be safety wired, and is a lock nut.
I butchered up the stock S2000 headers to get them in. Looks like I will
need to route the two center tubes fowards, then back to the collector.
Found a really neat header and parts source : http://www.burnsstainless.com/ check out all the J & U pipes you can buy!
The majority of the work has been grinding my crappy welds so that they
at least look presentable.

OK, so how's the plan working out?

Hayden,
Yeah, it's gotten a little out of hand But truth be told, placing
a new font clip will bring it back to stock. I saved the tranny tunnel,
and new floor can be sourced from Alfaholics, etc. So not impossible,
but certainly improbable

Little more snail-paced progress.
I finally tacked the new cross member in while the S2000
motor was in. I decided to use three crome-moly tubes.
The rear ones are 1-1/4" X 0.065" and the front one is 1" X 0.120".
This was necessary to get at least 1/2 inch clearance between
the tubes and the S2000 oil pan, and tranny bell housing.
Since I could not add a tube to the front most portion of the
original cross member, I added a couple of 1" gussets.
Next on the list is to add some bracing to the tranny tunnel,
to avoid any resonant vibrations of the cavity, then tack it in.
Stay tuned....

Well, a little more progress. I spot welded in support braces on the
tranny tunnel so that I dont get any wierd resonances when driving.
It's really stout, and one can actually stand on it without caving it in.
I tacked it into the car, and it fits very nice with the motor and tranny in.
I will make sure I can get the motor and tranny out of the car first before
welding the tranny cover and cross brace fully in.

Good to see the project moving forward Kevin.
If by chance you get the motor fired up in October you might be able to make the 2nd Annual Magnaflow Dyno Day Bash and show us what the lil monster can lay down.

Simon,
Thanks, but highly unlikely. I think my plan of action is to get the car
dipped, primed, and undercoated, then get the suspension in, wire
up the motor, custom fuel tank, S2000 pedals, and fire it up for a test
run to be sure that I dont need more mods to be welded. then paint
and interior. At the rate I'm going, I think my kids will be using the
car for their senior proms
