Sprint 6C

I am running this thread in the Alfa Boxer forum as some on here will know, but, as it is an engine conversion using an Alfa V6 perhaps it should be here?
I have an Alfa Romeo Sprint and have taken out the front engined 4 cylinder 1.5 boxer engine.
I have cut out the rear of the car including all the running gear.
I then removed the front of a 3.0 litre 24 valve V6 from a 164 and this is now located in the widened Sprint rear end to give a midmount transverse engine.
The gear change rods now run forwards by reversing the gear selector rod and putting a U/J into the extended rod.
The intention is to have a version of the Sprint 6C which is a quick- lightly used, road car - Not a track special.
There is still a fair way to go, but I hope to have the car running by July 12th for our local Italian Car Day in Bedfordshire

Wow. That's a crazy project. Keep the updates coming.

How will that affect weight distribution and handling? I imagine most Alfas are nose heavy cars, and the suspension is set up that way.

Cool!!! Kind of like a Fiat X19 but in Alfa format (and a much bigger engine ).
I'd suggest moving the engine forward as much as is reasonably possible.
My Toyota MR2 has an obvious angle on the drive shafts that show the engine is moved forwards (compared to the same engine/trans in a front wheel drive) and they still had a 45/55% front/rear weight distribution with a 4 cylinder engine.

Thanks Ungawunga - I will keep the pics coming...
Duk, the engine is being kept in the standard 164 location on its subframe and I know the weight distribution will be significantly rear biased - but I am not seeking ultimate roadholding. I was actually surprised at how far forward the engine block is on the 164 and will try to get the corner weights measured when I have the car more nearly completed.

Still making progress but only in getting "bits" - I now have, what I hope, will be the basis of the rear window for the bulkhead and a pair of steel wing sections for the rear wheel arches - photos to follow when I can get the car moved forward a bit!

As promised an update on the rear end of the 6C with the tacked louvres and beginings of the tail spoiler.

Still making progress as I have now started fitting the rear arches. It does change the rear view somewhat!

Still making progress - doing lots of reinforcement around the engine bay by fitting inner wheel arches, then plating in front of the 164 subframe, to distribute the loadings evenly into the floor pan/sill area.

Still making progress as I have now sorted the exhaust/silencer system with a pair of SS silencers and suitable bends. As the system is not now linked into one pipe, the Lambda sensor will only "see" one bank of cylinders (- hopefully not a problem?)

Sweet project!

I don't feel the lambda sensor will care if it's only seeing one bank of cylinders. If there is a huge difference between the two banks, your problem will be larger than an oxygen sensor could fix (like maybe a stuck injector). My 24V is only getting the signal from one bank of cylinders. They meet up in later on though.

I think you should try to work in an X pipe. With your two banks not communicating with eachother, you'll lose some power. This has been proven many times. Or if space is the largest concern, maybe a simple H, it'll do the job nearly as well.

Thanks Don - I will try it as two systems and if there is a problem I will try a linking pipe between the silencers.
I've been doing a lot of basic body repair work to get the car ready for paint next month.
