84 spider fuse problem

#7 fuse has been blowing. Owners manual says it controls back-up lights and instrument light. When it blows the instrument lights stay on but the tachometer quits and the generator warning light comes on full bright.

The owners manual calls for an 8 amp fuse. The shop manual calls for a 10 amp fuse. I can't find a european style (ceramic) 10 amp fuse and the US fuse (metal and glass) is too short.

1. Suggestions for diagnosing the fuse blowing problem?
2. Suggestions for replacing the 8 amp fuse with a 10 amp?

Alfas #7 fuse description omitted the word 'warning' between instrument and light. The instrument lights, or dash lights, are powered by fuse #4. Fuse #7 powers the following;

instrument warning lights
gauges
reverse lights
fan
lighter

The first thing I'd do after fitting the correct 8 amp bullet style fuse would be to disconnect the pink power wire from the lighter.

The 10 amp fuse listing in your service manual applies to the later, blade style fuseboxes.
