Wiring Harness

Has anyone built their own wiring harness? I am looking for the correct wire and terminal connections or something close for a 1958 Giulietta Print Veloce.

Lionel Valez makes wire harnesses for that vintage of Alfa. He is a member of this BB. You could try googling him to find contact info.

Are you looking to repair your harness or are you looking for a new one? If the first, new non-insulated open barrel tin-plated (preferable) brass terminals (by AMP/Tyco and identically as used by ALFA ROMEO) are still available from a suppliers such as....

British Wiring - harnesses for classic cars and motorcycles
Rhode Island Wiring Service Inc.
Autoelectric Supplies
FASTON Electrical Quick Connects - Tyco Electronics

For new harnesses, as Osso mentions go to Lionel Valez or maybe RI wiring (which list a harness for the 1961 SS).

Yesterday I was looking at a classic car magazine out of the UK which had an article on how to redo wiring on classic cars. The article was not very informative actually....however it listed the following supplier for electrical hardware....

AUTO SPARKS

...I thought their web-site is one of the best supplier sites I've seen yet...

Would building a Wiring harness from one of the Wiring Harness Kit suppliers (kwik) satisfy in an 75 Spica alfa Spider?

What's wrong with your wiring harness at the moment?

The car went through a flood and the wiring appears melted beyond the fuse box. Functionally, I have no headlights, horn or radio. Car runs fine with plenty of power to fuel pump, charge battery, and ancellary items. I have practicallyall electrical function, within reason (fuel pump, fan, wipers, running lights, tail lights, backing lights, turn signals). My import garage mechanic/electrician will not touch the car unless I replace the complete wiring harness (he claims he is a re-builder and not a wire wrapping Mr-fix-it). So, I am checking out my options.

Well in light of this, I guess you have 3 options available to you (sorry if I'm stating the obvious here).
1) build a new one from scratch using yours as a master (this is the most time consuming option and will require some learning on your part...material and crimping tools are available from the suppliers I listed in my earlier post).
2) have some one like Lionel Valez make one from scratch (the most expensive option....but you will get a quality product in the end)
3) buy a used harness from either another AlfaBBer (you can post a WTB thread) or try callig recycler like Alfa Parts Exchange or Denoya Trading Post (an e-Bay seller). Since there are probably plenty of spiders out there...this may be the best option for you IMHO.

Your thought about possibly going with an aftermarket generic harness is not one I would pursue if I were you. How could a generic harness possibly provide the proper connectors for all the various relays, sensors and switches? You'd end up spending a ton of time sorting out and modifying this harness IMHO....It'll be a nightmare IMHO.

Second electrician, second result. For about $400 the new electrician/alternator rebuilder cleaned out the fuse box, replaced wiring to headlights and confirmed problem is in stick switch on steering column. We are installing a wiring relay with new headlamps (re Daniel Stern lighting) and the electrician hopes that after cleaning the switch, with the reduced juice, it may just work. Horns are dead and need to be replaced. Radio speakers, same--dead. Must be from flood. There are LHD Alfa Spider (1975) complete wiring harness available through Autosparks in England. They are approx $600 delivered, but rely on the purchaser sending the old harness as a template for the work. So far, so good on my wiring repairs.
