Spider won't shut off

88 spider won't shut off when you turn the key off.
Still runs after disconnecting battery. I believe I must take the dash and column apart to accesss the ignition switch. Somebody apparently tryed to steal this car when it was new. The ignition switch had been replaced as part of that. I suspect that could be the issue? How to get Column apart help would be good too.
Any Ideas? Thanks

'88 is pretty easy:

Long phillips head screwdriver, come up from the bottom of the column cover, remove the 4 screws and pop the top and bottom half apart.

That's it.

Once in there, you'll likely want to look for shorts and chase the wires form the switch down to where they tie in under the dash.
