Electric oil pressure sending unit
Are these things universal (except for threads) or are they mated to the gauge?

No. The variable resistance (rheostat) ones that drive gauges are specific to that maker. If you're talking about a simple low pressure switch (like the Alfa one that comes on at 5 psi), then that's just a simple on-off grounding switch which probably would be universal in operation.

I spent some very nervous time trying to figure out why my newly rebuilt engine had no oil pressure before I discovered that a Jaeger gauge with a Veglia sending unit equals no oil pressure. I had lots of pressure once I swapped the sender
