universal headlight switch wiring

Gentlemen, I have given up on the column mounted headlight switch in my '79 spider. I want to wire in a universal headlight switch but have no idea how to go about it. I purchased a 3 position push/pull switch from Checker auto. It has two terminals on each side and a terminal at the rear of the switch. when I attach the hot wire to the rear terminal I get power to both terminals on the right regardless of switch position but no power to either terminal on the left regardless of switch position. Can someone draw me a simple diagram to show me how to wire this switch in? Do i need a floor-mounted dimmer switch also? Please help. Here is what I think I know about my wiring:
-red wire- power
-yellow and grey wires- high beams
-green wire- low beams
Thanks for putting up with a wiring moron.
