Duetto wiper switch - upgrade to 2-speed?

Hi,

A question about windshield wipers. I have a 67 Duetto with the standard 1-speed wiper and on / off toggle switch. To have a 2-speed wiper, is it possible to just install a later 2-speed switch, or does this actually require a different wiper motor altogether? I don't mind changing the switch, but for obvious reasons would rather not change out the motor.

Thanks,

Aaron

If I'm reading the parts books right, the single speed 3-wire wiper motor for your Duetto, Bosch #0 390 326 002, is the same motor that's in our 68 GTV which has two speeds. I have a NOS motor in the parts pile so if you can wait a few days, I'll fire it up and get some wire color codes for you. I'd think though that there might be a little rewiring to do at the 2-speed switch and perhaps the footswitch as well.

If that's the case, then it sounds like it's possible to do without messing with the wiper motor. My foot switch is currently disconnected (another project, another time), so that doesn't present a problem quite yet.

Thanks for the info!

The Bosch #0 390 326 002 wiper motor IS a 2 speed. The three wires, at least on our NOS spare, are red, white & green (coincidence?). The red wire is the 'park' circuit and is always hot. The green wire is 'high' speed and the white, when powered WITH the green, is 'low'speed.

Thanks for the research on this, Jim. I think I understand how this would work. I wonder if the one-speed setup on my Duetto is 'high' or 'low' -- it's not particularly fast or slow so I couldn't guess without looking at the switch. Now to find a two-speed switch...

I'd guess that the speed you have now is the faster of the two. Notice I didn't say 'fast'.
