Maybe we could lure some of those Montreal owners over from yahoo if you whipped up a Monty diagram?

1978 Spider diagram

Papajam,

A note of thanks for putting these together. I bought a 78 Spider this summer; great condition but had a lot of wiring problems. Your diagram made it so much easier to fix and saved me countless hours of troubleshooting. I had the diagram blown up/laminated and it's hanging on my garage wall.

One question on the hazard light (the rectangle one, not the round red blinker). That appears to be wired to come on any time the parking lights are on (in line with the dash lights). Is that correct? I don't see another way it would work but it just seems odd since there is already the round green light to do that up by the guages.

I can use all the reminders I can get anyway...I actually need a big hand to come out of the air vent and smack me when I'm about to leave the lights on.

Thanks again and I'll look forward to the updates,

Jeff

Yes, the rectangular hazard light is wired to the parking light circuit and it's brightness is adjusted via the dimmer switch. It would appear that it's sole purpose, as are the "DEF" and "WIPE" lights for their respective switches, is to indicate the approximate location of the round hazard light push button switch, which has it's own light that flashes when the hazards are on, should the operator wish to turn on the hazard lights at night.

Thanks for the note of thanks. I'm pleased that my efforts in drawing these diagrams has helped to keep another Alfa on the road!

And welcome to the BB.

Jeff,
Welcome to the AlfaBB!

Its always good to see another '78 Spider driver from Texas.
Drop me a pm now and then to keep me informed of your progress and maybe we can get together for a little country drive beyond Houston.

Good luck on your Alfa life-giving efforts.

Papajam - your diagrams are fantastic! Since you're asking, how about the "105.26 Giulia Super thru 1967" as your next venture to post.

Thanks again for all your hard work on these!

Jim,

I've added your whole collection to the Electrical Diagrams Forum. I've also stuck all of them so they will stay on top. One other thing that I have done is to lock down that forum from posts so that its just remains a archive area.

Thank you for taking the time to make and share them!

PapaJam, Any possibility of there ever being one of your fantastic wiring diagrams for the series 4 1990-1993 Alfa Spider ?

been using your 73 USA veloce one lately, but, as Im sure you are aware, there are differences.

cheers

Jamie

Hey Jamie,
Yes, there's a possibility of an S4 diagram but I'm a little reluctant to try one. In 1982, Alfa changed their diagram format to show the many different electrical systems separately; not as the 'whole car' format used on the '81 and earlier diagrams. Although would it probably be easier to draw diagrams in the newer format, there would be many many pages of diagrams for one car. Let me think a bit on how to make it workable. In the meantime, if you PM me your email address, I'll send you a revised version of the '78 Spider diagram. It might be closer than the '73 diagram, but not by much.

You can make Adobe PDF files with embedded hyperlinks. Clicking on part of the diagram could bring up another. It would be a meisterstuck of visio-wizardry.
