I've have this same problem with my '81 spider, It didn't do it until I put a remfg. starter on the car. The good folks at IAP said it was my ignition switch,( same place I got the starter) so... A new one is being installed this week. My question is... If this problem persists, can I by-pass the css since the spica has long since been removed? I have dual dellortos on the car currently. Also, Is a wiring diagram available for an 81 or 82 spider? are they the same? While in the process of connecting the new ignition switch I discovered the green wire not connected to anything, and the red wire spliced in to another wire. The PO and the "import" shop were both real geniuses. Luckily the shop is out of business and I have a great mechanic with a lot of patience. ( this is the first Alfa he's worked on and has done a wonderful job) Kinda wish I had found this BB before and during the engine rebuild we just did.

If the SPICA system is no longer in the car, then the wire isn't connected to anything, is it? In that case, I'd just snip the wire off at it's source or tape the end.

thanks John,
you know, if I had half a braincell I probably would have thought of that. I actually just didn't know if the css was wired in on the ignition side or on the spica fuel infection. And with the massive cluster this poor thing was in when I got it... I wouldn't be half surprised anymore if I discovered that the PO and friends decided to wire the radiator to the battery ( you know, to positively charge the coolant.) hey they cut the valve seats to fit the oversized valves ( 45 degree seat) and put the stock ones back in ( 30 degree seat) and thats just one of many misadventures in automotive I've discovered in my "red-headed Italian Mistress" the past 6yrs

Don
