alfa headlights -- wattages

does anyone know how many watts the alfa wiring can handle? I know there is a thread going on about converting to HID, but I just dont have the dough for that. That said what is the brightest bulb I can safely attach to the alfa wiring?

Also are there any simple tricks to allow use of a brighter bulb? extra relays(I don't know what these do)?

Hey Sono:

I ran 110/130s on my 78 Spider through the stock harness without burning anything up. With that said.....I might have been lucky not to fry a harness or the switch itself.

You can safely run these style bulb with relays to provide the power to the bulbs. In stock setting, the switch gives the power to the bulbs. In a relay setup, the light switch would trigger the relay to give the power to light the bulb. The relay setup spares the light switch and stock harness from the massive draw of amps that those bulbs need.

Another thing to consider is the weakness of your charging system. You may find everything dimming after turning on your new lights, so be sure to address this.

Best Regards,
John M

I agree with John,

I am currently converting H1 (55W) to H4 (110W), but using relays to take the load off the harness. I don't want to find out the hard way what the melt down point of the harness is

You can buy some HID look-alike globes which really seem to have been dipped in some blue stain to give your light that effect (seems a bit sad to me). They manufactuers of thses products also claim that these Xeon imitations are brighter than the other halogens, but I can't see how a tint increases brightness...

I converted to H4 bulbs but they are still rated at 55w. I am planning on installing relays none the less.
I am extremely pleased with this upgrade, and this set only cost me $40!
