Wiring 73 Spider washer fluid pump

I have a 73 Spider with the classic foot operated pump which isn't working any longer. The one way valve at the bottom of the tube in the tank is broken.

I have a fluid bottle from a newer alfa that has an electrical pump attached, and it fits perfectly in the bracket, and would like to redirect the original wires that energized the wiper blades briefly when the pedal is pumped so that it will now pump the fliud instead.

The problem is that I can't figure out which wires coming out of the foot pump to connect to the two terminals (+ & -) on the electrical pump. I also can't figure out how to access the wiper motor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Paul

Attach the ground wire from the new electric pump to a convenient chassis ground.
Remove the four wire connector from the foot washer pump. Locate the blue or gray wire (depending on the year) in the connector and remove it from the connector.
Insulate the end of the wire and tuck it up out of the way as it will no longer be used.
Install the power wire from the new electric pump into the connector where the blue or gray wire was just removed.
Install the connector onto the foot pump.

Pushing the foot pump will now operate the electric pump BUT the wipers will not turn on automatically. You'll need to turn on the wipers via the wiper switch.

Follow up questions

Thanks Jim, Electrical problems are not my forte and I feel I should proceed with caution. There are two gray wires entering one of the four terminals (I think terminal #3) on the connector. According to my diagram, one goes to the main wiper switch on the console and the other goes to the wiper motor after becoming red.

There are no blue wires, although there are two blue/white wires; one on terminal #1 and the other on #2. One goes to the main wiper switch and the other goes to the wiper motor. The remaining terminal (#4) has two blue/black wires on it. One goes to fuse #2 and on to the starter/battery as a red wire, and the other goes to the wiper motor after changing to black.

So, how do I determine which gray wire to remove? Do i just pull it out or cut it?

Thanks Again, Paul

Pull both gray wires out of the connector and insulate them. Do not cut either wire.

It sounds deceptively easy.

Thank you so much, Paul
