So, speaking of 1986-1988 Spiders, are wiring diagrams available for these cars?

If so, could I trouble you for one?

Save for the fuel pump wiring, the 86-88 11541 Spider diagrams are done. I'll be working on an 86 in the next couple of weeks that will (hopefully) allow me to finish the diagrams. Do you need something right away?

Well, I'm trying to make sure that my fuel pump is properly grounded. I just finished reassembling the engine top end after having the head rebuilt and the fuel pump runs continuously. After searching the BB, one of the causes of this condition seems to be a poorly-grounded pump. I located - and made sure they were properly connected - the two black wires that connect to one of the AAV mounting bolts and the two black wires that connect to the rear of the intake manifold. Now, I'm looking for any other grounds that would affect the fuel pump. I have a CarDisc manual, but I am having a difficult time deciphering the wiring diagrams.

Otherwise, I could wait.

Thanks!

My understanding of the fuelpump electric is that the pump turns on with switched power, not a switched ground. If correct, then a ground issue would not cause the fuel pump to run continuously. If you disconnect the fuelpump relay, does the pump still run?

I didn't get a chance to work on the car last night and I'm not near the car now, so I'll get back to you later with an answer to that question.

Yes. In fact, when I reconnect the battery, the fuel pump runs with the key out of the ignition and the drive relay disconnected.

EDIT: OK. I fixed the problem. The "professional" who installed the LoJack (next to the ECU) for the PO scabbed onto the fuel pump fuse wire for power (using some kind of cloth tape, no less). The connector to the LoJack had come off and was grounding on the body underneath the ECU. I found this out when I went back to make sure that I had unplugged the correct relay. I clipped the wire and fixed the scab and - you guessed it - the fuel pump operates properly.

Thanks Jim! I'd still like a diagram when you are ready, but I'm not in a hurry.

Well, fused pump relay contacts can now be ruled out.
Working off an 84 diagram here so I can't be sure. Terminal #87 of the fuel pump relay is the output to the pump and the AAV. It is a pink/black stripe wire to the pump. There should NOT be battery voltage at this wire with the key off. Is there voltage? Does the plastic connector show any signs of overheating or melting?

Hi Papjam. I wish you lived next door. I'm brand new to this site and pretty much to Alfas, too. I have a 1987 Grad that I'm rebuilding and a 1983 Veloce parts car. I could sure use the wiring diagrams for both. I think I screwed up. I switched the doors because the 83 had power windows, but the 83 doors won't work with the 87 switches. Unfortunately, I've already had the doors painted to match the car. Any suggestions? I can retrieve the toggle switch from the 83, but I like the looks of the push buttons on the 87.

I also have no dash lights...kinda a bummer at night. Then there's the hard top I got off the 83, but I don't know how to wire it in to the 87.

Can you help? I'd really be grateful. If you have a wiring diagram or two that would help me, my email is lshanda@comcast.net. Thanks, really.
Laree

Welcome to the BB, Laree.

I order that you receive the correct 87 diagram, I need to ask if your fusebox has bullet style fuses or blade style fuses.
I've looked at both diagrams and it seems that there is no reason why the 83 electric windows won't work with 87 wiring harness. Are the window motors/window regulators known to be in working order?
