Alternator Light

Today I changed the battery in my 1986 GTV6. Everything is fine except that when I turn off the ignition, the alternator light comes on and stays on. When the car is running--no alternator light. When the car is turned off the alternator light blazes brightly. Theories?

Alternator may be shorted internally! Go feel it and see if its warm.....right now. If so...disconnect it electrically.

Best Regards,
John M
