Exhaust manifold detailing
Any suggestions or recommendations for detailing an exhaust manifold. Griot's Garage has dressing and paint options. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!

I dont have any experiance with Griots Garage but I have used this product with great results.
http://www.por15.com/product.asp?productid=128
Its made by the same folks who make POR15 and if you know or have ever used any POR15 (anti rust paint) you would know that its great stuff.

Simon,
Were you able to apply that directly to the manifold or did you have to bake it on first? I used a hi-temp spray paint (from NAPA) last spring on my exhaust manifold and it just bubbled right off...the smell was something to be treasured.
But then again, the can was only $5.00

I did some headers and was very pleased with the way they turned out. I had them sand blasted before I painted them so they were pretty clean. The manufacturer really stresses how the surface needs to be oil free and clean before any application. They even sell some sort of metal prep spray that helps the paint to bond better but I’ve never used it. As far as application goes all I had to do was brush it on and let it dry but I hear that it is better to bake it in an oven to really get it to cure correctly.
The reason that I used this paint was because of POR-15's product line and the fact that the max temperature is like 5 times that of off the shelf temp paint.
Here is a link to a previous thread talking about the same paint.

Check out Eastwood. They have some products designed to make your cast iron headers look like they are fresh out of the mould.

I used Eastwoods high temp coating after media blasting some very grungy looking headers. Here's the result (with zero hours run time though).

Thanks everyone for the information. The headers on my Spider need some detailing. My mechanic swears by the POR15 products. I will give it a shot.
Thanks again!
Papa Jam - nice detailing! Impressive!!!

You might also look at Jet-Hot. I had mine sent there and they did a great job! I think it's jet-hot.com.

That Jet-Hot sounds like just the ticket. How has it held up over time?

I think they've held-up really well, take a look. This is after three years and over 12K miles.

I HAD A '67 JAG THAT HAD A BEAUTIFUL EXHAUST MANIFOLD THAT I SWEAR WAS BLACK PORCELAIN-COATED. OVER THE 15+ YEARS THAT I HAD THE CAR, THE MANIFOLD NEVER CHANGED APPEARENCE AND I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF IT STILL LOOKS THE SAME. ANYONE MAYBE FAMILIAR WITH WHAT THE COATING MAY HAVE BEEN?

As I mentioned on another thread, I just received a quote from Jet-Hot for a 4-into-2 exhaust manifold -- $95 plus S&H.
Sounds like a good deal for a long lasting finish.
