Removing stickers

Hi, could anyone offer some advice for removing stickers from painted surfaces? I've searched online some and read about using a hair dryer and pulling the sticker off at a 45-degree angle.

The question I have is more concerned with how to clean off the sticky residue left on by the adhesive. Any process I should follow to clean that off? I assume I need to re-wax that area afterwards. thanks a lot!

I use a product called Wurth Industrie Clean, it's brilliant for removing old residue like that, even ancient contact adhesive, without damaging the paint. I guess you could soak a folded piece of kitchen towel with it, then apply it to the sticker for half an hour or so to allow it to penetrate before starting to peel it off.

I bought a small bottle of "Goo-off" at home depot to remove some stickers the kids had put on the refrigerator. Worked well on the glue residue.
Also you could try some rubbing alcohol.

I swear by 3M Woodgrain and Stripe remover.

3M Woodgrain and Stripe Remover

You can get it at just about any paint and body supply place and most good hardware or auto parts stores. It's kind of weird as it sprays out in this foam kind of consistency but it works well. Sometimes, I'll use a hair dryer or put the car out in the sun and slowly peel off striping or stickers using a plastic spatula or plastic scraper used to apply Bondo. Then finish it with the woodgrain and stripe remover.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions everyone! So a bunch of this can be found at the local hardware store? I guess I could try the rubbing alcohol first though, since I have some of that in the medicine cabinet.

I've used 3M General Adhesive Remover on painted surfaces for years and swear by it. They sell it as most Napa Auto stores, etc. Rubbing Alcohol won't hurt but won't really work either.

WD-40 will help lift the sticker and then loosens all the residual glue so you can wipe it off with a clean rag.
