Schumacher SE-2001 Battery Charger

Alfisti,

I desperately need someone's assistance in locating a Schumacher SE-2001 Battery Charger, manufactured by the Schumacher Electric Corporation of Mount Prospect, Illinois, between 1990 and 2000. There is a date stamp on the unit indicating its month and year of manufacture: For example, H0499 means April 1999, H1294 means December 1994.

I represent the family of a young boy who grabbed the handle of a defective battery charger and was electrocuted. I would like to purchase one or more units for examination by my experts, and some reverse engineering.

If you have a Schumacher meeting this description that you’d be willing to part with, please contact me and name your price. Thanks in advance.

Mr. Ivey,

This thread piqued my interest and I could not locate a unit. I did though locate a PDF of the original operators manual. Information from this may prove itself invaluable. Good luck with your case.

Thank you Chris. I can't say too much in a public forum, but there were some modifications that resulted in the cooling fan blade being too close to the wiring harness. Little boy wanted to help dad with tragic results. I have two sons who are often in the garage with me, and this case just makes me determined to identify the responsible parties. I appreciate your helpfulness.

Well, from the sounds of it, anyone who used it was going to end up like the fly in the bug zapper.

Good luck.

I just had my SE2001 charger apart and noticed that the two positive diodes mounting studs are only about 1/8" from the metal back panel. If the panel is pushed in it may contact the studs and short the poistive side to the frame. I put wood insulation between the stud and the back panel.

Would you be willing to sell yours? I really need one. A twelve year old was electrocuted in his father's garage.

SE-2001 Barry Charger

The one I have is H952 tagged on the back. Since reading your thread, I coated and added wood insulators to the back of my charger. Chargers of this type size I have, cost around $135.00 plus shipping. would you pay the cost of a replacement as I use mine at home for my cars and boats?
I'd like to help in any way. I have children and grandchildren whom I teach by helping me in my garage and lawn&garden.

Sure, sorry I did not get back to you right away. I am actually out of town on a business deal and will be travelling five of the next six days. Send me payment instructions to jkivey.esq @ gmail.com and I'll get the money to you and send shipping instructions. You're a prince for helping me on this. I was surprised how much difficulty I've had finding other examples for my experts to examine.
