Try bypassing the Pressure Relief Valve in the front fuel filter. Cap off the inlet/outlet and connect the hoses together with a short piece of pipe.

If you have an L-Jet supply pump as a substitute, make sure that the restrictor in the front fuel fitting in the injection pump has been narrowed to 1/16th inch.

Flicker solved

Well, I finally resolved this problem. Before getting into the solution I would like to list some lessons learned.

1. Great board members with lots of help. All "newbs" are blessed with this opportunity

2. Great board members should be listened to.

3. A log of actions taken and results would have been a great help. I should have known to do this being a service engineer in a past life.

4. Please see #2.

I had been bringing this car back to life for the past year and from the start had many problems associated with a car having sat for 10 years. I replaced:

Fuel pump
in tank pump
filters
Spica pump (Ingram Ent., accept no substitutes)
injectors
points
plugs
rotor
cap
fuel lines
Etc

All this got me to a point of operation with a random flickering light problem associated with a loss of power but this was very intermittent. Last weekend I went for a long drive with the wife with the idea of showing her the money spent went to a good cause. After the first step we got underway and then pulled over to help a fellow alfisti who had a flat. After sitting at idle for about 15 minutes I tried to get under way with major flickering and no power, but would idle no problem.

I reached under the car and felt the pump. It was not hot but the attached hose was vibrating big time. I thought at that time it must be the pump. I asked the board members for a loaner and Ray came through even sending it priority mail. I received it saturday. Once installed it DID NOT solve the problem. Ray, I will send it along on Monday along with $ to cover the incoming postage.

This morning I by passed the PRV located at the front fuel filter. No Vibration, No Flicker, and No loss of power.

It looks like it was the PRV but keep in mind that this was very intermittent. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not. I really think the LOG of actions and results would have helped as I had bypassed the PRV in the past and As I recall it did not solve the problem but I have had to fix so many things I could not remember exactly what the results were. The log would have been a good reference.

On a positive note, I do know a hell of a lot about this car that I would not have known had I just fueled it up and turned the key.

Later, goin for a drive
