As in the diagram above, the measurement is from the flange (with the screw holes in it) to the tip of the piston with about 4kg of force applied. Your's sounds like it doesn't meet specs.

Yes, you are right. I believe I need a minimum of 6 mm of movement from cold to hot and that is all that I was checking. Time for a rebuild. Thanks.
