1988 spider will not start

My spider, I parked in the fall running fine, will not start now, I gave the engine a small squirt of gas and it as long as I could keep fuel to it. Fuel pumps were not running. so I jumped them out. and the car ran well I took it for a ride it ran ok. so I replaced the large black relay. Now when I turn the key on I get a flash of Battery voltage to the fuel pumps them they stop. the car will start but not stay running. if i give it a squirt of fuel in the intake it will run as long as i can keep fuel to it. Do you think i burned out the fuel pump when i jumped them and drove it??? any help is greatly appreiceted WPC

It's common for the pumps to do a quick pulse when turning the key from off to run, then they 'should' pick up once the engine is actually running.

Does the large tachymetric relay hum a bit when the engine is running? (it should to the point where you can feel it and possibly hear it too)

That sounds more like a throttle position sensor, cold start circut, fuel pressure/volume, or false air issue to me.

Once it gets warmed up a bit, will it contiune to run without you having to fiddle the gas pedal?

As long as there was fuel going through them, no, they should be fine.

A key might be 'it ran fine in the fall'.

Over the off season you never know what bound up or got corroded.

Have you gone through and cleaned all the electrical contacts and lubed all linkages/pivots/spots where things move?

Does it act like it floods out after it warms up ? If so it could be the ECT Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, if not try to check some other Alfa Romeo parts
near the ignition pump.
