One difference I know of for sure is the DCOM has a diaphram type accelerator pump while the DCOE has a piston type. There could be other small differences as well but I think the carbs are 'basically' the same; twin choke sidedraughts with many interchangable parts (jets, chokes,etc.).

dcom carbs

I got a set of 40 dcom from Italy - great deal on e-bay- carbs were in great shape . I'm having a little trouble with the idle jetting . The idle system seems to be much more emissions happy ( lean) . I have had to make the idle jet ( f21-4 air holes) a size 70 to stop lean popping on mild acceleration . The idle jets on my 2 other Alfas with dcoe carbs are only size 50 . When the weather warms up I'll drive it more to see if the plugs are too black & what the gas mileage is . Elva Courier with 2L Alfa & 5 speed . Goes like hell!
