Fuel Pressure Issues on 1750 GTV - Norman SPICA

Started right after putting a full tank at BP. Gas overflowed while car sitting idle for a few minutes. Put the car away, next day car began to sputter at about 3,000 rpm and barely could keep the car running. I noticed that the fuel pressure light stayed on continuesly and while the car would start, it would warm up to 3000/3500 rpm and fall right down.

I started out by changing the Rear Fuel Filter - no change.
Then I changed the Engine Fuel Filter - no change.

I purchased a nice pump from Centerline that provides plenty of pressure. Right after installing the pump, car's rpms would snap right up to 6000 and up and no fuel pressure light.

Today I added a full tank of gas and once again, fuel pressure light on at all times and car runs like crap again, sputtering and not getting correct fuel pressure.

I noticed the following: Turning the ignition key, the Gerenator light does NOT come on. Turning the car on, the fuel pressure light goes on immediately and the Gererator light stays on.

There must be something going on with either a fuse gone bad...... an electrical connection......pressure from the gas tank ??????

Anyone - thanks,
Carm

There is no way that with the throttles in idle (fully closed) that the rpm will climb to 6000 rpm, regardless of any injection pump malfunction. Needs some clarification/info on that.

Have you checked to ensure that the fuel tank vent system is clear and not creating a vacuum in the tank?

You were a little unclear. When you turn the key switch to on, does the fuel low pressure light come on momentarily, then go out? If the LP light is on, check the voltage at the fuel pump. If the Gen light is staying on, you need to tackle that first.

Thanks for responding John. A friend forwarded me a PDF called "SPICA FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC GUIDE"........ plenty to read and learn. It's available on line, good stuff.

Thanks again,
Carm

Yea. I know. I wrote it. If you want the other guide on Roadside Diagnostics go to Ingram Enterprises, Inc. || Spica Pump Rebuilds and download it. If you want some other Spica tech material and a Bench Check Guide, send me a PM with an email address capable of receiving some large files. Gmail works great.
