Fuel Pump Cutoff Switch?

I am told that newer FI'd cars and racers have a rear fuel pump cutout switch that stops delivering fuel under certain circumstances. I could imagine in a wreck or in component failure (from the pump discharge to the FI pump inlet - a lot of real estate), that the rear fuel delivery pump could run and continue to feed a fire or make a nasty puddle of fuel. As exposed as the underbelly fuel pump/filter areas is to road debris including the short pump suction line), this is not so far fetched. Could some knowledgeable person(s) comment on this and lend some sage advice? Thanks, Bruce

You mean an interia switch.

Several versions of the spider had them right from the factory, (usualy on the right side of the firewall from what I've gathered), up to about the mid 80's when it was determined that the coil and relay setup they incorporated with the L-jet and later the Motronic EFI system made such things redundant. (very basically: if the engine isn't actually running, the pumps aren't pumping anything)

Certainly one could be retrofitted or cobbled in to pretty much any electric pump fed system, as they are generally just a two wire affair that the power wire to said pump passes through.

Give it a big enough jolt and it breaks contact internally thus stopping power to the pump(s) until it's manually reset.

Fords used to have a nice compact one in there 80's and early 90's cars if you're looking to scavenge one out of something at the junkyard.
