engine/tranny stand

I just finished my first welding project. I built an angine and tranny
stand. I used 1-1/2 square stock that is 0.083mils thick. my work
area is pretty small, and I needed a stand to be able to move my
engine and tranny out of the way to work on the chassis.

I used a Hobart Handler 140 MIG welder with 0.030" flux cored wire.
My welds are not the best, but hopefully will hold. I think I will use
shielding gas and solid wire next time, as the flux cored stuff puts
out lots of smoke and spatter/slag.

I'll post a pic of the engine mounted to the stand. Hope it fits

Looks great. If you bolted on a radiator bracket, you could use it as a test run stand to check for leaks, etc, before installing the engine.

How much did the materials cost?

John,

Mike Valiant made a really nice test stand. I think that adding
the radiator would probably work ok on my stand as well.

The materials costs about $60 for metal stock, wheels, paint
and welding wire.

Keven,
What material did you use for the axle to prevent it from bending under load?

The axle is 1/2'" solid round mild steel stock. I drilled thru the square stock
and pushed the rod thru, then attached the wheels. At first I was going to
just weld some round stock to the square stock and attach the wheels,
but when I looked at some "dollies" they all had the rod or axle conected
to both tires.

Very nice work Kevin!

Make sure you post some pics when you have a motor mounted on it.

Well, got the motor on the stand. One small problem, I did not make the
motor mount rests large enough. But over all it fits, holds the weight,
and can be moved around quite easily.

Keven - Cap off those fuel fittings on the SPICA pump. Don't want dirt in there.
