p.s. i know there's a color chart posted above, but these pix seem better
(at least on my color monitor) at representing what i would see in the real world.

I haven't seen these cars myself. The pictures seem to have a color temperature shift towards blue. That being said, I'm guessing the paint names/codes are as follows:

#1 (Giulia Super): Verde Pino/Pine Green - AR-216 or AR-234.

#2 (GTV6): Grigio Platino Met/Platinum Grey Metallic - AR-689.

#3 (Giulietta Sprint): Alfa Rosso/Alfa Red (old) - AR-501.

#4 (GTV): Avorio/Ivory - AR-129.

thanks tubut.
interesting-- i was going on the assumption that the top one was blue. there was an ad for the same model of car in what seemed like the same color in britain, and they called it bluette. i researched bluette, and it's a dark blackish blue. not this color. i think it's a great color, however.
so that beautiful dark red is old alfa red? i like it!
any other guesses?

john

Hmm.

I played a little bit with color correction (see below) and there is still a lot of blue in that picture.

Bluette was available on request for Giulia Super with a Marroon (a redish brown) interior -- so, this car could indeed be painted Bluette, either AR-506 or AR-327 (I'm not sure if they are the same color) -- but then again, the interior seems to be more brown than red, which would bring it back to Verde Pino.

Let's hope somebody here knows the car or the owner to clarify the color.

interesting observation. i went so far as to buy a book that someone said had an excellent example of a bluette car. the bluette in the book is a dark 'petrol blue' -- like black mixed with blue. this is a lighter and creamier color -- i think it's outstanding. could there be two formulations of bluette? i know that the color code has changed a few times, but didn't know if the color itself has changed.
i'm after a blue that shows off the lines of the car, and i think the blue (green?) above fits the bill.
either that or the gorgeous old alfa red!

I can't think of the name of the older guy that owns the beautiful '56 column shift Giulietta sprint, but I don't think that is an Alfa color.

Bluette: The British car indeed seems to be the optional Bluette (with correct Amaranto interior).

Slate Blue: Never heard of that color (as opposed to Slate Grey, which is on the darker side of a medium grey). The 1985 color pallette for GTV-6/2.5 was: Shell White, Jet Black, Alfa Red, Chestnut Metallic, Sable Brown Metallic and Platinum Silver Metallic).

Red: The colors in the pictures taken at the event seem to have a strong shift towards blue, but Stu seems to know the Giulietta and probably has a good idea wether this is an Alfa color or not.

Paint swatches: I've attached some early 1960s Italver Cellulose (lacquer) paint swatches below that show the Bluette and Alfa Red of the time. The top color is Black and the grey color is Grigio Grafite.

Yes, I'm familiar with that particular Giulietta sprint, and although the photos look a bit blue, the car itself looks too blue to me to be a correct period color. I don't remember ever seeing a 1950's red that was that blue or purple; the ones I have seen actually look a little pink or orange to me. Than again, everyone's eyesight is not exactly the same.

I'm also aware though that back in the mid-1950s, it was possible to have Alfa paint your car any color you wanted to special order. I've seen a metalic greeny-turquoise as an original color in a 4th series 1900 Touring coupe, and I have never seen that color in any Alfa paint chip chart....but than again, I'm sure I haven't seen every Alfa paint chip chart from the late 1940s through the 1960s

The color chips in the paint chip chart Tubut posted look a little brown to my eyes..even the black looks a little like very, very dark brown...

colors

thanks tubut.

that bluette seems really light. i've attached something someone else posted about u.s. color options for '69 gtv's. bluette, alfa red, and slate blue are listed. i was wondering if the gtv6 was slate blue.

here's a link to a posting of colors available for '69 u.s. gtv's among others (scroll down).

The color accuracy and linearity of scanned paint swatches seems to a problem unless one spends a fortune on the equipment -- something I'm not willing to do.

i hear that. i think what i'll have to do is narrow it down to a half-dozen contenders, then have a paint store mix up quart samples. i'll then ask someone to spray some test cards to see what they are like in reality. i already ordered a dark red (like the giulietta) as a ferrari color as touch-up paint. - john
