My scripts don't bling!
I just acquired the scripts for the trunk of my Giulia Super. I'd like to make them look shiny and new - or near enough - without having to send them out to be done. They are cast aluminum and while aluminum mag polish cleaned them up a little, I'm still disappointed in some of the imperfections still present.
They seem to have a finish similar to the chrome finish on plastic model parts. In other words, there's a point in rubbing the finish actually starts to diminish the shine.
How can I restore the bling in my scripts?

Are you sure they're aluminum and not pot metal or chrome plated brass like the early ones?

Nope, I'm not sure other than going by what the seller told me. Is there an easy way to tell one type over the other? I was going to use my Dremel tool to the backside of the scripts and test whether I could bring the shine up to where I'd like it.

What about taking them to a chrome shop? They'll buff the crap outta them. You'll definitly be blingin' then.

Hi noticed that your script had some pittings. The trouble with this is that there is no way to cover the pitting and if you polish it up or have it rechromed without filing in tht pits, they will only become more obvious!
My chromer tells me that the pitted pieces dont polish up nicely bec the polishing process is likely to uncover even more pits since the lose grains are likely to be spun off in the polishing process. if its brass or aluminum its possible to wear it down until the pits are no more but that eats up alot of material but with pot metal, that is not possilbe. only thing I have heard is something about copper filling which is to use copper to fill up the pits and then chrome it like a regular piece but that is a very expense process certainly not worth the $ unless its a very rare script or piece of chroming.

Check with Black-Barts.com
He may have the giulia super script. The alfa romeo script in all lower case, I dunno where you could get that. It's likely that it's brass underneath, so check.

No idea if it'll help, given that it looks like there's no shine left...but you could try Flitz polish on them. If they can be saved by polishing, Flitz will do it. Check someplace like Home Depot for it.

Steven,
I have the same issue with mine, pretty sure they're pot metal and I sort of dulled them trying to make 'em shiney. Short of replating, I think we're stuck. It's kind of funny; you can get a new GTC script and they only made a 1000, but you can't get a Super script and they made 100,000 plus.

Hmmm... what about chrome paint from a rattle can.
Seriously... thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'll be doing some more research this week - that Flitz stuff seems like a good start!
sprintgtc - What's up with that?!?! Maybe there's a business opportunity there? (Unless that's what Black Bart's already doing.)

The Alfa Romeo and Giulia Super scripts seem to be available from QCP Classic Emblems in Italy for $29 and $21, respectively. In my experience, Ciro de Pasquale has been reliable and speaks good English. You can contact him through the web site.
According to above mentioned web site, the emblems seem to be aluminum -- that may be the reason why they don't bling as much as you'd like.

How many GTC's have been restored to concours condition versus Supers? ... me thinks heaps more, which explains the supply and demand volumes.
I bet you can also get the GTA script for the same reason.

Pete,
I'm sure you are right & it is a supply/demand issue. The GTA script I can understand: many GTA's have been redone and a few GTV hotrods have them. But I've only come across 21 GTC's (mostly just pictures on the web) in 6 years of looking. The Yahoo GTC group register has 9. I doubt there is 100 worldwide. There's got to be more Supers than that!

I got my badges from:
Franco Ragni
Via P. Tommaso 49/F
10125 Torino
Tel: (011)65.05.864
Fax: (011)65.03.163
I think he's the guy that manufactures them. I just found his website. It looks pretty cool.
He even has the script for the GTC.
