Smile Windshield rust?

Well guys, I've been ignoring my '71 GTV 1750 for a couple of days now...

The reason you ask?

The windshield rust

Although it needs every fender to be replaced, all the rockers, and the floors replaced, along with the wheel wells, the windshield rust is the only scary thing to me.

I'll be doing all the body work myself. I can not afford to get it done by a shop

What do you guys think? How should I go about and do it?

I need one of those English Rollers that Jesse James has
Or what about fibreglass?

The car runs on rotten fuel, and two cylinders... So it's not a total basketcase!

Share your thoughts...

Check out the body work that alfarestore did on his '74 GTV. His method and research to complete the restoration on his car is probably the way to go.

The learning curve should be fun. Good luck!

Remove the windscreen ... roll car away and roll in another one, install windscreen

Seriously, you do not need an English rolling wheel, but you will need to remove the windscreen ... remove all trim, including dashboard, etc. Far better to work on if everything is out of the way.

Get hold of some cardboard to use as templates ... then get a 6" grinder with a wire wheel attachment and get rid of the rust/paint, etc. Once all gone cut out the rusty stuff and make new panels by copying the cardboard templates.

Remember Ferrari's used to be made out of many, many pieces welded together, hand formed.

If necessary get yourself a bag of sand and hammer the curves into the panel using the sand as support.

And yes have a look at the AlfaRestore site (or if it helps my car ) ... in the end a car is only metal panels welded or otherwise together.
