Which car does this fit?

I bought a new steering column firewall grommet and found that it wouldn't fit my 1969 1750 Spider. The grommet has the same shape as the one that goes in my car, but the location of the hole for the steering column is slightly offest. The top picture is of the one in my Spider, the lower picture is the one I'm puzzled about. I think it goes in the GT Juniors and 1750 GTV, but I'm not sure.

There are two basic types of column grommets; oblong and round. The round ones first appeared at the time of the series 2 1750 introduction. Of the 3 different oblong grommets I found, one was for the Spider 1600, another for all sedans (including TI, Super, Berlina, etc.) and the third for everything else.
From the parts books drawings, it's impossible to tell what the Spider 1600 grommet looks like. However, the grommet in your second pic is a dead ringer for the sedan grommet. The clue here is not where the hole is but the slightly raised portion of rubber around the hole. The pic is the grommet from our S1 1750 which is the same part number as yours. The slight difference in the hole location from yours might be explained by production differences in the retainer hole locations and/or column alignment when assembled.

BTW, where did you ever find a new oblong column grommet?

I got it from Re-Originals. I thought for sure it would have been for a GT Junior as they are so common over there.

Thanks for looking into it.
