Electro-plating

Today, I got back the last of my plating. I ended up doing three batches. Had I planned a little better, I could have done it in less. I've been told that in Colorado, you can no longer get Cad (cadmium) plating done. So, I elected to have clear zinc and yellow zinc. As in all finishes surface prep is the key to a great finish. Items that are media blasted with something that textures the surface will end up with a slightly dull finish. I had a large batch of hose clamps done in yellow cad. They look terrific. All the other bits and pieces I could think of recieved a clear zinc.

The clear zinc looks pretty blue when you see it with your own eyes. The yellow zinc looks really gold, but in many areas there is sort of a rainbow of red colors. Neither finish looks original. For me, consistency in the finish is what is most important.

Does anyone know of a reputable plating shop where it is still possible to have items cadmium-plated? And they would have to be ok with mailing finished items back to the UK. Any recommendations?

Alex.

Cadmiun is now considered a restricted substance in automotive world. Most OE platers no longer use CAD as a result. Therefore I would be very surprised if you find reputable plater using Cad..
