Alfa Romeo Featured Marque at Monterey Historics
Alfa Romeo, the first marque to be featured at the Historics in 1975, will be the featured marque at the 2008 Monterey Historics.
Mario Andretti will be the official guest of honor as well.
Here is the story:

It is dumb that they announce this so close to the event. I am sure there are a lot of people who would have applied if they had known Alfa Romeo would be the featured marque. I initially heard there was not going to be a marque and it was just going to be a 35th Anniversey celebration of the event.
Had we known, we would have sent in our apps for two more cars (a TZ1 and another GTA). We sent in our app for me to drive the GTA. If we ever get into one of these events, I'd say this is our best chance. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for introducing more evidence Bob. This does make it seem more like Alfa is not the featured marque.

I asked for clarification from Monterey Historics regarding Alfa as the featured marque.
There will be several Alfa races this year, but they won't be as many as the Indy Cars last year. There will also be Historic F1, Trans-Am, Can-Am and IMSA Race Cars.
Sorry for the misleading thread title.

Phil Hill (1961 World Driving Champion, 3x Le Mans winner, 3X Sebring winner, Can Am winner, etc.) showed up at an AROSC Christmas event around 1980, brought his 6C 1750GS, spoke for +/- 30 minutes, answered tons of questions, signed autographs, innumerable photo opps, etc. Price: a bottle of vino rosso.
They don't make gents like that anymore

I hope that they let in SEVERAL Alfas's, and I hope I can make it as well. I'd be nice to see some nice Alfas there in the track and padock.
If there is a Salute to Alfa - I'll take it as a Featured Marque, Special thing, or whatever - I'll try to be there.
Las time I was ther it was Ferrari - I had a blast!

Eliseo, let me know if you are going. My brother may be selling a car (non-Alfa) at one of the big auctions. If so, I may take the crew chief and go out for the weekend.

If you had been here, you would know.
You were prolly in some bar in upstate talkin' 'bout Chebbies, while we were on the Left Coast GIVING away Alfas (well, it cost Andy $40, but it WAS a giveaway )
[Of course I'm referring to the 2005 Convention in Seattle)
[If you want me to 'splain about a potlatch, I'll do it by pm] (It's pretty ) Ask Andy

Don't feel bad I received three emails from various people that had jumped to the same conclusion.
Hey we can all hope that it happens next year or the following. Alfa Romeo can make it happen if they have the budget and the will. The organizers would typically get out a press release in the prior year so as to get as many Alfas as possible.

I think your right, we need to be very careful as to how we interperate the recent announcement from general racing regarding this years monterey historics. Three months ago I bought my tickets and reserved two campsites at the track.I then asked what was this years theme? They told me that they had asked all of the previously honored marques to submit five cars that best represented the history of their companys. I then told them I was coming in my alfa romeo and was bringing my son who is now a BMW mechanic[sorry technision].I was told the response from both Alfa and BMW was excellent and that we would not be dissapointed. This reference to alfa probably refers to alfa being the inaugural or first honored marque but not "the" honored marque. Hope this helps to clear up some of the confusion.
