Big NY auto event
No, I'm not talking about the NY Auto Show at the Javits center. This Saturday I will be testing my Thermostatic Actuator for proper extension and retorquing the 2ltr's cylinder head. There is limited room in my garage for spectators so I'm afraid there is room for only a limited number of Alfisti and I must request RSVP's from all those interested

I know there is a caravan from California leaving in an hour but don't know if you'll be on the route. Are you off #80 .

This should be good. You're gonna remove the TA and heat it in a pan of water to check the extension at 175 degrees, right?. There's nothing wrong with that. However, your spectators will be interested to see how fast you can get a little plug in the water manifold when you remove the upper end of the actuator. And, just don't say any bad words if you forget to place a couple of rags over the TA hole in the injection pump (the antifreeze will pour out almost right over the pump).

Yea, that will work. That will give me plenty of time to pack. Will there be a lunch buffet or are we are on own?

Well... I can't make it. I do, however, recommend you investiage initiating the "Tom Sawyer whitewash fence principle". Did you ever read any of the Tom Sawyer stories?. When Aunt Becky directed Tom to whitewash the fence, he had some of his pals for onlookers and, after a little dialog, convinced them that painting the fence was such fun that they should do it, after which he could relax in the shade while the fence was painted by others. I had a good friend who convinced me to sell my Austin Healey and buy an Alfa and I would struggle and cuss while he watched me try to work on the car. The "Technique" worked almost every time and I got him to do quite a lot of work on the Alfa.
I betcha that head could be torqued by someone else while you relax and sip on an adult malt beverage...

Well, a good time was had by all . Got to meet my new best buddy "Jack" who helped me with the testing of the T/A. Said some people called him "Sir" . Looks like my TA extension was a bit short , now where did I hear that before . About 25.7967mm at 175 degrees instead of the 27mm that is called for. For those (me) without a metric ruler , 27mm = 1.06299". I drained the coolent out first so I didn't have to worry about it leaking out of the top .

Well, I guess you missed yesterdays unless you were burried way back in the 4th or 5th row, when I put in 3 point retractable seat belts. Lets see , there is another one again tomorrow when my TA is returned an I'll put it in along with a retorque of the head. I'm in Western Suffolk not quite as cool as the East End .
