What Are You Planning on Driving to the National Convention in Chicago??

Mark,
Is the implication that I need a striped shirt and a whistle?
If you're serious, I'll send you a PM once I know my flight itinerary possibilities. Second thought, it will have to be an e-mail, my PMs are locked and have been for some time. Were you planning on being in Michigan on Tuesday, to make it into Chicago Tuesday evening....is the Detroit Airport on your route from Kentucky?
Btw, I much prefer the comfort of a 164 to a Milano. I don't recall your kids being old enough to drive, did I miss one? Or are mom and dad taking a vacation and letting some other adult deal with the DVD dilemma or is that the shifting from mini-van to 164?

Boy, you sure are up late there, Jason!
Yes, there is a lot of countryside and many peasants in need of burnination between here and Chicago!

I'll make the trip in my '69 Spider. If something goes wrong, my backup will be the '95 164LS.

If I can schedule the trip and If I can afford it and If SWMBO gives me permission and If the Alfa is out of the shop by then and ready for the road and If my Chicago relatives can be reached and If the-creek-dont-rise, I will be driving Sophia, my '78 Spider.

Jason... your freaking me out with the six hundredth and sixty sixth post and the fire and brimstone stuff??
Bob.. We should have an Alfa caravan with some of the other Alfa folks! When are you planning on leaving? I was thinking about leaving Thursday around 8 or 9 am. That is always negotiable.

To Chicago
It's a lovely thought, a late spring road trip to my first national convention, as I note the temp dropping outside to well below zero here in Frostbite Falls, Minnesota.
I plan to drive the 69 spider followed by one son in 74 gtv. Younger son is convinced he should buy what looks to be quite the craig's-list-find 164 tucked in a local shop - as his personal Alfa ride to the show.
Local Alfisti Ed Solstad recently noted that he hopes to drive his restored Dauphine in our caravan. Given the current frozen tundra, the writers strike, over the top election coverage, convention dreaming is a wonderful distraction.

Paul,
A caravan to Chicago is a definite possibility, but I haven't even begun to think about when I'm going up. Would you be going via Indianapolis? That looks like it would make the most sense for you. For me, it's through Illinois, straight up I-57. Anyway, if it works out, I'm game.
Re: the "fire & brimstone" thing, did you follow the link on the bottom of Alex's post. Definitely the craziest thing I've seen lately.

Back on topic...We should be heading out to Chicago on Monday or Tuesday of convention week and will be burninating our way across the Pennsylvania and Ohio countryside. Anyone wishing to join up is welcome to do so...just remember to bring a fire extinguisher and your Nomex underwear (no, Gordy...I don't want to see you in that Nomex thong! ).

We're leaving from NJ on Monday (hopefully very early) taking I-78 to I-81 to I-76/I-70. We'll be going across Ohio on I-70 and staying overnight just south of Dayton. (We have a modest home in Middletown, but alfisiti friends are welcome any time.) Then we'll take our time the next day and leave the house sometime in the late morning. It's about a 5 hour drive from there to Chicago, so we'll probably be getting to the hotel between 4 and 5 PM on Tuesday. Same thing, if anyone wants to caravan, we'll be glad to do so.
Best regards,

We're taking I-70 to I-76 to I-80 to I-90 if we go straight through. That way, it's only just over 700 miles (just long enough to warm up the oil). If we don't go straight through, we may take a more twisty two-lane route for at least some of the ride.
I have to be at the BOD meeting to present something (shhhhh, it's a secret! ).
