misc thoughts on the show

overall, the scene was great. the fiat and alfa turn out was fantastic. dean martin playing in the background was a nice touch. it was just too perfect hearing some guys haggling in italian at the swap meet

but i could probably see more modern ferraris, lambos, ducatis, and moto guzzis by hanging out on mulhulland hwy. lots of cute vespas and lambrettas, though .
i was really hoping to see more pre-war stuff. oh well . . .
many very interesting cars were driving by on the street and making great noise, but never saw them on display

it was great meeting several members of the BB
looking at page 4, "mbaum" somehow caught a picture of me checking out the silver and red zagato styled ??
practically looks like i was posing for it.

while i did't try any of the food, it struck me that it would have been absolutely wonderful to have french and/or italian food available. even simple deli style. i think it would have added to the mood.

anyone have pics of the tatra ? sadly, out of my ignorance, i don't know which one it was .

hopefully i will have the GTV back together and up-and-running again for next year, so i can properly join in !
we should have some alfaBB badges, so we can recognise each other

Did anyone happen to get history or a chassis number on this car?

Once again this event was quite enjoyable . . lots of eye candy and good people to chat with! I saw lots of AlfaBB t-shirts milling around, but didn't know who any of them were. We should wear screen name badges next time.

I uploaded 300+ pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/SixtySevenGTV. Bummed me out that I filled up my 64MB flash card. Next time I'll start snapping shots in the Alfa section first.

BTW, there was some culturally (word?) correct food. The espresso guy worked his butt off and I got the last Italian sausage. Too bad the sausage/burger vendor sold out of all their drinks. Had to buy a $2 can of Coke from the rib/pulled pork vendor. heh heh "pulled pork"

Coincidence that these girls are hanging around Anthony's GTA?

Dining at the Best of France and Italy

We have always used this event as another excuse to bring a fabulous picnic, and plenty of others did so likewise. Who knows, maybe a certain Alfa club will judge these picnics?

I have three images of the Tatra that are too big to use as attachments on this BB. If you send me an email (james.barrett@ricoh-usa.com), I'll be happy to forward them to you.

Cheers, on a really nice day in SoCal!

If you email them to me I'll shrink them down for you and post them.

I really regret not having been able to make the show for the last couple of years. I love both Italian and French cars and I was in heaven the last time I attended. With the new baby, if I ever get a non-Alfa classic car I think it will be a Citroen DS21 (I would love a Facel Vega but those are soooooo out of my price range )

So, what is the story on the 102 Series with the modern motor?

you mean the one with a TS motor ? i passed by twice, but no one was around to talk to

even cooler to me ( and my dad since he owned one wayyyy back when ) was the austin healey 3000 converted to an alfa 2L drivetrain the owner was saying the alfa motor was actually a little more powerful, and only weighed half of the original tractor I6. unless the alfa engine was modified though, i suspect the original was more powerful - just weighed a lot more, thus slowing it down. i do think the classic british sixes ( triumph, austin, jag, aston ) do sound wonderful personally, i would have kept the original iron lump for classic originality . . . but it was still neat nontheless.

That picture of Anthony's GTA looks vintage...you could tell people it was taken back in the day for sure.

Does anyone know where I can get a list of vendors from the Best of Italy and France Show? I was on the site, and I can't find a list of vendors from the swapmeet. I'm looking for a cool b/w giulia poster... I know they had stuff like that there, but I wasn't in christmas shopping mode yet, and my boyfriend was with me... and the poster is for him.

HELP!

Also, if any one knows of a dealer who would have something like this... LET ME KNOW ASAP!!!

I'll go anywhere in socal... I'm in Irvine, but I'm in LA almost every weekend...

I'm getting desperate.

e-mail me with suggestions. kara.davis@adelphia.net

thanks.
