I'm in Northwest vista section 5 this is a really good view as you can see about 3/4 of the track. The only thing thats not visible from here is the start finish straight and righthander before it.

Hey all,
I have been out of town and haven't been able to follow this thread.
This is my first time at the GP in 3 years, so bear with me...
Will anyone's car be in the Car Corral? I've actually never seen the Corral, but from what I gather, it's like a parking lot-style show for European cars, although in searching the web, it seems like it's a lot of Audis and Subarus rather than classics, but the person who suggested the event to me owns an MG...
My car will be there the entire time- Friday, Saturday, and race day. You guys could use my car as a convenient meeting point if you'd like... I will be working at the race and won't be able to make it over to the corral too often, but you are welcome to "use" my Spider under the condition that you leave suggestions on the various problems it has on post-it notes stuck under the wipers!
Seriously, somebody set a meeting time and use my car as the rendezvous point (unless other Alfas will be in the corral).

Hi Eric,
Indy was also my first live one, during the second year at Indy a few years ago. The F1 exhaust burble and feral scream is going to blow you away, I dare say! Very different from TV.
Definitely walk around during the race; as I remember the infield where the turns are (a 180 degree turn) was excellent, and a great way to see the cars zoom by and spit sparks (from scraping the ground?) at close range. The last corner onto the front straight-away is also not to be missed - full throttle acceleration.
Oh yeah, the roasted turkey legs weren't bad either!
Have lots of fun and how about taking some pics for the BB?

If any of you are in town and looking to buy an Alfa, I just happened across a Spider for sale. It's parked in front of the Starbucks at 5945 Crawfordsville Road in Speedway (At 16th and Georgetown, head West on 16th until you are forced to go onto Georgetown. Then keep going for maybe a mile and it's on the south side).
It's a really nice looking '86 Spider Quad with 32k miles. Red. For this area, it's about as rust-free as you can expect. No external rust and only a few spots underneath. They want $7500 for it, which actually seems reasonable. It's a good looking car, assuming it runs well. I didn't spend too much time looking at it as I was in a hurry. If anyone wants, I do have the contact info of the seller's daughter as she manages the Starbucks. PM me for details.

Please say hello if any of you are in that area! My camera will be going as fast as the cars :-)

I tried to look you up, but there was nobody home when I stopped by. Hope you enjoyed the race, despite the heat!

Back from the event, and we had a great time!! Hopefully, it will be there next year, and we can keep going back.
Patrick- we moved around a lot for qualifying and practice, but stayed in our seats for the real race.
I'll leave the racing comments to the motorsports board.
But how about we make more of an effort for a paddock parking area? There were quite a few cars on the back straight, but only 2 Alfas. I'd strongly think about driving one down if we were going to get such good parking for the weekend. Anyone know how to get the parking back there?
There were 2 Alfas- one Spider and one really nice green Berlina.
I would volunteer to organize, BUT I'm already full with the 07 Convention.

We saw the Berlina as it was about to enter the track on the north end... very nice indeed!
Our seats are in section 10... right at start finish. GREAT place to watch the start of an F1 race. To those who have never witnessed an F1 start... you owe it to yourself to see one... at least once. Go see a Top Fueler take off too BTW.
The photo is Michael settling in pre-start.
The video does NOT do justice to the deafening sound these cars make.
PS Did someone say there was an autocross on Sunday too?

The Spider was mine... nothing real special, but it's fun to drive.
The Berlina was gorgeous. I left a note on my windshield addressed to the owner asking him to send me an email... it was gone yesterday when I went to move my Spider back to the employee lot, so I hope the Berlina owner got it! Original 1969 paint was thicker and glossier than anything you will find today. An amazing and well preserved car... and he drove it all the way from MD to Indiana! I met him briefly on Saturday when I arrived, but I had to head to a meeting. Real nice guy, but I don't know if he's on this forum.
Glad everyone enjoyed the race. Racing and F1 politics aside, IMS tried hard to make it a good event and I think it was a success.

Tremendous video of that start! Looks like they were shot out of a cannon. Lots of echo in those seats.

The funny thing about the noise/sound is that the new 8 cylinder cars are about half as loud as the old 10ers. I have been in the start/finish area across from the pits for practice and qualifying every year. With the 8's the sound is impressive but with the 10's the sound is INSANE totally painful even with earplugs!! Those things would not be possible to stand if you didn't have the plugs. I remember standing in the same spot I was at two years ago with earplugs and about 3 or 4 of the 10 cylinder cars went by the sound was so loud and powerful you almost couldn't stand it with it bouncing off all that concrete. You could literally FEEL the power waves hitting you and vibrating through your entire body! That was painful not just to my ears either. The 8's seem to be just kind of loud but not that kind of LOUD!! I was really disappointed at the change. But it was a fun experience despite the lack of competition in the race itself. The whole time I was hoping for a miracle of rain or a ferrari engine blow-up but alas....no such luck. Maybe by next year Michelin will have stolen the Bridgestone tire recipe.

Hi all,
Sorry I did'nt get the chance to meet up with any of you. We also were moving around quite alot over the weekend. Our corner 10 seats were great- however we spent more time down at the fence trying to get some better pics. I actually let the berlina cut in front of my rental car as we both came down Georgetown rd. We were amazed at the condition of the car - it was a joy to follow him to the track.
I thought his plate was from Jersey but could be wrong. I posted some weekend pics on my site so please check them out!

His plates were from Maryland. I think he said near Baltimore. It was a truly gorgeous car. Original paint if you can believe it! Thickest, richest paint I've ever seen. He said it was originally a Wisconsin car and then it ended up in Florida until Bobcor bought it. He bought it from Bobcor after they did some mild refurbishment and some suspension work. Really nice guy, but I can't seem to find him on the BB- I was hoping maybe he snapped a photo of our cars together. I left a note with my email under the wipers of my car the second day and it was gone when I left, but I've not heard anything. Let's just hope my email hasn't been written on bathroom stalls all over Indianapolis!
Nice guy, I think it was Rick something.
