cabikefreak - nice suggestions, thanks! I'll check it out, the more the merrier. Doesn't matter about the size of the event, just that there are cars there! Most people have all sorts of stuff on their computers hard-drive - I just have pictures of cars. I should probably see someone about that.... ;-)
Alfajay - thanks. The plan at the moment is to buy myself a car (preferably a Fiat 124 Spyder or something at least vaguely interesting that's cheap enough....but might just be a cheap anonymous eBay heap in the end) to use in and around San Francisco, then use it to drive to Infineon Raceway to be a track ambassador volunteer for the Sonoma Classic and then south to LA on Highway 1. So I'll hopefully be in and around both Northern and Southern California.
Alfaguy35 - are the Wine Country Classic and the Sonoma Classic the same thing? I think the Sonoma Classic is June 4th/5th and I'm hoping to be there. As above, I'm already registered on their Track Ambassador program so I'm hoping to be there in a volunteer capacity. For anyone who loves this kind of event and finds themselves in the UK in June sort of time, check out the Goodwood Festival of Speed. For anyone who loves old cars, this event is just awesome.
I'll check out those body shops and classic specialists, thanks. There's a few places I've considered contacting to ask if they'll let me kick around and help out for a few days - there's a Porsche parts place called EASY over the Bay in Emeryville that's on the list, too. I did used to work in a bodyshop in the UK, but only washing cars, and I've had a few resto projects going myself before.
As for the race at Reno....I think I'd be daft to turn it down! I've just looked it up on a map and the distance between SF and Reno looks do-able in a day (I'm English, North American distances completely screw my brain!). The idea is to get to SF for about May 6th. I'm hoping to do some skydiving up in Cloverdale but other than that I have no plans really, so if I get the chance to come and be a part of something unique like that, then yes, most def! I was originally planning on doing some racing myself while in the US (I've just been trying to renew my UK race licence online) but I don't think I'm going to have the cash for that. We'll definately chat on PM when I have a minute. :-D
Man, I'm excited for all this. Life is good right now, very good indeed. Thank-you everybody for the responses, it's a very pleasant community you have going here.
