When they hooked it up to the dyno to do this run, I told them just to give me the horsepower print out. The car was down 19 hp on their dyno so that could be from not taking it to 7500. Either way, it was fun seeing and hearing the car run in that room.

I thought the sound was
AWESOME!

Anthony,
What do the two cars weigh? My guess is the Jr. is at least 300 lbs heavier.
Also, thanks again for the ride in the GTA. I still want "a real" one on the track someday!

Assuming that the pull was done in 4th gear and that this car has a 5.12 rearend (I think this is what Anthony said he was running) and that the tires are a size that run at about 895 rev/mile, 85 mph would be reached at about 6500 rpm. Doesn't this seems a bit early to terminate the run?
Before someone tries to tell me my calculations are wrong, I also did them for my own car (data not yet posted). However, I happen to have both rpm and mph printouts so I can check the calculations. My pull cutoff was at 5750 rpm or 94 mph as near as I can read the graphs. With (new) tires that tirerack says are 893 rev/mile, a 4.10 rearend and in 4th gear, my calculations say 5750 rpm corresponds to 94.1 mph.
After my runs, the "driver" said he had shutdown at an indicated 6500 on the (mechanical) tach. He wanted me to know that the dyno reading indicated that this was actually 5700 rpm. This is a bit more error than I would have anticipated but I'll believe the dyno reading before I'll believe a 40 yr old mechanical tech.
Maybe I'm answering my own question here. According to what we were told at the event, Anthony's car had a positive ground (right hand drive = British origin?) and this in turn caused problems with the dyno (no rpm readout?). Maybe they shutdown the GTA run based on a mechanical tach reading that was in error.

The car stopped making power, read: HP went flat. Why push it?

The GTA weighs 1700 lbs and my GT Jr. weighs 1950.
Next time I have the GTA at an AROSC, you'll get the ride of your life, remember to bring your diapers.

It picks up again. The power flattens out at 7400 rpm.

Bruce:
FWIW, my mechanical tach reads 7000 rpm against (Dave Evans') dyno's 6200 reading, almost exactly the same error you're getting.
"The older I get, the faster I was" seems to apply not only to my driving but to our tachs as well :-)

I doubt it. There is no bhp curve to look at 'till the pull is finished.

If I'd known he was going to use the car's tach, I would have told him it was way wrong. I just thought he'd be using the tach displayed on the dyno's monitor. There I go thinking again. But it wouldn't have made any difference anyway so I'm not bothered. It was a fun morning and that's all that counts.

The reason I think David Wong's run was interesting is because he managed 133 HP from a mildly modified 2-liter with a Wes Ingram HP SPICA pump. This was the highest figures for any 2-liter car of the day. It also had the steepest power curve! I think this proves that SPICA gives up nothing over carbs. The motor was running pretty rich as well. If the induction system could be tuned a little better it might even do better.
David,
Would you give us the specs of your motor?

I was thinking the same thing. It would be nice to get some specs on his setup.
I have added MPEG files to each post above for those of you who are on non-windows computers. Let me know it they work out for you.
