BUT why does the interior HAVE to look like it has been raced for 57/58 years?
Again the aim of any car enthusiast is SURELY to maintain the car as it was originally ... not leave it to deteriorate over 57/58 years of abuse.
Thus I am not saying it needs to be restored/polished or anything like that, but I do not understand the fascination you Americans (and it really is only your guys) for NOT maintaining your old cars. If you maintain a car in 100% original condition you replace things as they wear out ... your do not get excited because now that piece of the car looks like sh!t.
I went to an excellent museum in LA on a business trip and they had a Model T Ford (I think ... memory is struggling) and it was left in exactly the same condition as it was pulled out of a barn. The guide went on how many enthusiasts now like old cars to look like that ... you know: original paint, etc.
MY point is that I like cars to be 100% drivers and functional ... thus maintenance has to be perfect. Thus if maintenance is perfect NO car would ever end up as rough as that Model T Ford. Now I am not saying anything about being restored, just maintained ... thus when paint gets too old, you paint it ... and then drive the car again (thus patina returns, etc.).
Thus that interior of that Ferrari has been neglected to end up like that cause NOBODY in the 57/58 years has maintained it, and the real reason it looks like that is probably that it has sat in a barn for 30 of those years deterorating and NOT being looked after ... little to do with 57/58 years of racing. NO way would a proud racing driver race a car that badly maintained ... infact NO scrutineer would pass it fit for racing!
I do hope you can see my point. I'm not at all into perfect restorations of race cars ... but NO race car should ever look tatty, they should all be fighting fit  (and that has nothing to do with leather stitching).

ps: Next time you get a chance, go to a club race meet. You will (I think) be surprised at the level of preparation most race car owners maintain ... as it's a pride thing. And many club race cars (thanks to short budgets) have been raced for many, many years ... but guess what: They do the maintenance and paint the cars when they start looking tacky. I know in New Zealand (where I did all my club racing) that your entry will be refused if your car is too tatty ... no matter how good the mechanicals are.
I say to you that that Ferrari has NOT been raced continously at all and is a recent barn find ... or has sat in somebodies collection for years unloved. If the interior is that bad ... gee I wonder what the rest of the car is like UNDER that shiny exterior paint?

I meant like it was raced in 1957/1958 in which case it would have been just 2 - 3 years old and the car at the show appeared to be a race car that was 2 to 3 years old. The first Ferraris are just now 58 years old. I agree that not cleaning the squirrels nets out of the passenger seat is dumb but I still think this car did not need anything to be restoration.

Neither do I ... just tidy up and paint some of the interior (and rebuild the mechanicals if they are in the same neglected state), so that indeed it does look like a 2 year old race car

ps: We look at old photos now and the cars don't look that well prepared in some ... I believe that has a lot to do with the fact that it is an old black and white photo. Ie. while I am sure a modern F1 car is far more immaculate than it's 50's equivalent ... considering F1 was the peak of car racing, I'm sure atleast somebody had some pride on the team and washed them and made sure they were tidy, etc.
And well I think the same would apply to any race car owner ... but I guess that is NOT always the case. I can remember a couple of cars that used to race in NZ that we used to warn the owner to bring it up to standard ...

More pics. Unlike others here, I am vain enough to post a pic of my own car, even though no one else bothered. Of particular suprise is that it did not make it onto the 'Berlina' post, even though some non-Italian sedans did. *sigh* the trials of owning an unloved species of Alfa.

The guys' name is Daniel. He lives in Malibu and also owns a Fiat 8v Zagato. He is a friend of Tony Kravenek, the Siata and Fiat 8V guy. Sorry, but I don't have phone numbers for either.

Head count at Woodley Park
For what its worth I counted about 75 Alfas on the green just before noon, and about 10 - 15 "cheap skates" parked in the parking lot, who didn't have the $15.
Enjoyed seeing Steve ______'s award winning Alfetta GT. Nice to see an original owner car to compare what pieces mine is missing.
