Dirk was not there. He is off in another country buying another Alfa.

Was the owner of the 1900 Carrera car (Dirk) at the show? We were looking for him to say hello.

The 1900 is NOT a real Carrera car...it was not one of the 1954 team cars or privateer entries...it is just painted to look kind of like them..it also has a FNM 2300 motor in it

Bo Monroe owns one of the real 1954 Alfa 1900 TI privateer cars, and it is being restored.

Now THAT is a cockpit ....

When, oh when, oh when, are people going to realise that "perfection" does not necessarily lie in a paint job that looks an inch deep, and that patina, once lost, can never be replaced .....

Minor rant over!

http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77327 ... for full details.

While I agree that things do not have to be over restored, there is nothing wrong with tidying a car up so that it is perfectly functional and how it would have been when active (We have to remember that these cars did NOT look like that when new or current and also when racing). Saving patina just for patina's sake is crazy.

If this was my car I would tidy the inside up a little, so that it did not look like an old bomb, ready for the rubbish dump. Again it all comes down to cars are supposed to be used NOT just looked at ... a fully functional machine will have patina but not excessive as it will be correctly maintained. Excessive patina simply means that maintenance has been ignored ... hardly right for a machine that is ALL about driving.

Still more cars that caught my eye

I knew there was an Alfa somewhere...and an extremely rare French BMW...or maybe it was Italian?

I didn't get that impression at all. The car looked very road ready and quite drivable. The fact that the interior was lacking hand stitched leather that rivals a LV handbad doesn't mean the car needs to be fixed. I thought it's condition was very appropriate and probably substantially what it looked like in 57/58 after a few years of racing.

Hey Chatis,

Thanks for posting the pics. Forgot to bring my camera for the show and it sure feels good to see my (partially hidden) car among your shots for memory sake.
