Round-Trip Reconsidered - reality rears its ugly head
Greetings Fellow Alfisti:
The plan has been run a number of times, with helpful suggestions from the BB, and the logic does not work. It is unlikely we can enjoy a round trip if it needs to be completed in the 16 days we have on hand.
So we are back to considering transport for the Spider out to Portland and truly enjoying four days at the convention and 12 days on the return.
I am aware of a dispatch of cars from Detroit, but getting the spider there in early July would necessitate covering a lot of ground in an additional trip. In attempting to get rates locally, the efforts of a CT chapter associate and myself have come up with some extravagantly expensive quotes.
A big impediment may be finding a landing spot for the car(s) in Portland, assuming they may precede our arrival by any number of days. Does the Convention have a solution for that?
And, consider this a call to any fellow Northeaster' - can we attempt to fill a trailer going west to reduce the cost?

Michael,
My wife and I would REALLY like to join you on the trip to Portland, but my niece picked July 18 for her wedding, so .... It's good to hear that Kathleen and Suzy in Detroit are going ahead with their car shipping plan -- that should liven up the West Coast for sure . I hope you find a way to drive out, and I'm sure you wont be disappointed. We flew to the last Portland convention, and had a great time in many ways. Probably the best collection of cars in any chapter in the States, and the tours in the Mt.Hood / Columbia River area will not disappoint.
Have fun,
Jim

Westward Ho!
Greetings:
The stars are aligning, and we are set for our Convention Road Trip. Shipping the Spider back east is less expensive than shipping it out to Portland, so we are driving Westward! The trip will start on the 3rd, and wind across norther US, through Montana, the Beartooth Highway, Glacier National Park, then up to Banff and across to Whistler. We will drop back into the US on the 15th. On the 16th, we run east of Rainier and St. Helen's, arriving in Portland in time to do the Notte Italian Dinner.
Thanks to the efforts of two fine shops in Port Chester, NY today, the spider has been aligned and sports new tires and wheels, and the AC is running again!

Greetings: Thanks for the offer, we will likely need all the help We can get. The links have been updated, as we are now only going one way - East to West, starting tomorrow morning. There is a new thread in the Pictures Forum where I will be making posts to as we amble along to Portland.
