Featured Marque at Hemming's 2009 Saratoga Car Show

Greetings: The May, 2009 Issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car contains a full page advertisement announcing their 4th Annual Car Show at the Saratoga Automobile Museum.

Alfa Romeo is listed as the Featured Marque for 2009! According to the ad:
"All Alfa Romeo sports cars are invited to attend, and will be dsplayed in a special area on the show field."
The event is scheduled for August 8th, rain date August 9th. The listed link Hemmings Sports& Exotic Car Show, currently references last year's event. Also, interested parties can e-mail Trisha Grande tgrand@hemmings.com for more information.

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for the North East to congregate and show off our pride and joys.

Upstate NY in the summer. Definately something to scratch on the calendar.

I'd like to hear more about it, but there is just a small paragraph on the web site... Has anyone attended prior events? What time does it start; when does it end?

Best regards,

Greetings:

Please note that at present the web site I provided is still displaying information about last year's event. Comparing to the S&E advertisement (p77), the information is as lowmilage posted from last year's site, with the exception that :

Honda is the motorcycle being featured, vs last year's Triumph.
Favorite Alfa is included in the awards and Triumph is off the lost.
Date is 8/8 vs 8/10

- Michael

I've also penciled it in on my calendar, but I would only go if we can get a group commitment... There's a lot of stuff going in in August, and the New Hope Auto Show is on the same weekend, although the Alfas would be displayed on Sunday. (The New Hope Show is an official AROC event for the NJ and Delaware chapters.) Then there's the FLU convention the following week... The distance to get there for me (~ 190 mi.) would also mean that I'd have to go up the night before, as I would definitely be driving back on Saturday, but I would certainly stay for dinner and don't mind driving back late (or in the rain ).

So, who's seriously thinking of going?

Best regards,

Best regards,
Greetings Enrique: A trip to Saratoga is high on my agenda for August. As you suggest, New Hope could be taken on Sunday. Google shows it to be under four hours up there from southern CT. I would not be showing at either, unless by some stroke of magic our Duetto gets the paint job it needs by then.

Michael,
Are you planning on driving the Duetto, but not showing it? (If you are looking for an Alfa shop to spray your Duetto, send me a PM.) With Alfa being the featured marque, I think we could get a good number of cars for the show... I would take my '84 Spider...

Best regards,

I contacted Hemmings regarding the show for those of us who do not make the pre-1989 cut. I asked for an area that we could designate an Alfa corral of some sort. It would be a pity for us to drive there only to be randomly parked among lesser cars.

Here is Trisha's reply to date. Once late July approaches, it would be good to try to get an estimate of cars that are attending that are not showing.

Hi Rob,
We do have "special" parking for those who don't quite fit the criteria of the show and it's across the street from the Museum.
If there's a group of you planning on attending please let me know how many and we'll do our best to keep you all together.
I've passed your suggestion about opening the show up to the "younger" car owners...we'll see what happens.
Thank you and hope to see you at the show!
Best Regards,
Trisha

I didn't realize that there was a 20 year cut... I think this would affect attendance... I hope they change their mind. It isn't like we have a lot of Alfas to begin with, and disallowing "younger" concours quality cars limits that pool even more. Also, they seem to be a bit out of touch by naming Alfa as the featured marque and not realizing that all U.S. Alfas are pretty much vintage vehicles, and it would be interesting for younger car enthusiasts to see examples from a marque that left the U.S. almost 15 years ago...

Best regards,

With Alfa as the Marque, and 99.9% of USA cars over 15 years old, we should press for a coral, in the least.

As for myself, I am using the date as a target for having the Duetto in show condition.

Odds are if folks contacted Hemmings direct with their opinions, we could possibly change some element of the show....for those of us that have to wait another 4+ years to be among the accepted.

BTW - Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car mag has a decidely pro-Alfa viewpoint so our words do not fall on deaf ears. Not bad for a Vermont based effort!

Start here Hemmings Motor News: Auto Classifieds - Hemmings Auto Classifieds feature cars for sale nation wide. for Trisha's email.
