My problem comes in at steps 4-6. The normal heel and toe blipping of the throttle I do now without giving much throught, but I must say I'm not sure exactly when I do the blip. I'm sure I've already slipped into the required gear, then blip, then let the clutch out. Now to blip in neutral, then put the clutch in, then put it into gear, release the clutch and still match the revs correctly sounds impossible - at least in my car, unless I hold the blip for a while... a long while I understand it would get quicker with practice, but still sounds near impossible to do in my car at least.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but watching that car struggling to get into second gear looks like me and my car. I have to hold it there and ease it in... sometimes it goes in easily, but sometimes... crunch!!!

Specifically, the purpose of the syncro is match the rotational speed of the syncro sleeve with that of the gear being engaged so that the teeth on the sleeve will 'align' with the dog teeth on the gear. When these teeth align, there's no grinding. Heel toe double clutching (on a downshift) uses the engine to help match the rotational speeds of the sleeve and gear so the that syncro doesn't have to. The result is less wear on the syncro and, if the syncro is already worn, can reduce (or eliminate if you're good at it) grinding on a gear change.

On my way home last night I was trying to do the "double clutching" thing and I'm starting to get the hang of it. Giving it some more thought, I realised why I struggled with it so much at first and gave it up - learning to heel and toe is difficult enough without trying to incorporate double (de?)clutching at the same time. Well now that to heel and toe is more of a habit than conscious effort, there's less to think about when learning to double clutch - it's also easier to first practice while "coasting" (therefore leaving out "heel and toe" required when braking) to first get the feel of it. I also realise that it can all be done a lot quicker that I originally thought.

Now just need to practice some more and then try it in the Alfa next practice/race day - and hopefully it will help prevent the horrible crunch in second gear turns.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but seeing those video clips and the replies have forced to me to address an issue I had previously given up on. Thanks.

Those are really great video clips, and pretty awesome that you get to drive on all those circuits. Car looks pretty quick too!

Thanks so much for the great videos! I wish I could be on track with you! Please do more.

I am hoping to do an ALFA track day at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama one day... so far I've only been on the bike... most fun I've ever had in my life! Ciao!

The track of "Le Mas du clos" is my favorite track to drive in Junior Z...

I live about 400 km from this track...

Sunday, we went to the track of "Pouilly en Auxois"
