Il Giro delle Valli
On October 4,2008, the AROC-NJ presents the 2008 edition of our popular Hudson Valley Tour. For this year the tour has been expanded to include the Delaware Valley area and points in between. Beautiful scenery. Exciting and challenging roads. Tasty road-side markets and wineries. Lots of fun for you and your car. Everyone welcome. (Even non-Alfas) Contact Scott Klion, our intrepid tour organizer, at skli@escadausa.com for more information or to let him know that you'll be attending. The event begins at 8:00am in Sloatsburg, NY. (You've gotta love the smell of warm motor oil in the morning.)

The weather forecast couldn't be any better, so this promises to be a great day! For those of you who are wondering if you should join us, be aware that Scott does a superb job of putting together a great tour. Do please RSVP if you are planning on coming. This allows for lunch and dinner reservations to have an accurate count, and you'll also get the e-mail with the manual covering the whole tour. (Yes, Scott actually prepares a booklet, with the route detailed to the tenth of a mile, the schedule, shopping, lunch, dinner, etc.!) Below is a brief description from Scott, about what he has planned for this year.
Quote:
This year's tour will be on Saturday, October 4, and will be run as a one day, all day event. We will be starting in the morning at 8:30 am in Sloatsburg, NY, right where NJ Route 17, 287 and 87 converge, and ending at around 6:30 pm when our group dinner will begin. The route this year will take us over to and along the Hudson River, through Harriman State Park and West Point, and will then head west to the Delaware River valley area before ending in the New Paltz area.
Activities will include a tasting of wine and other spirits at a vineyard, sampling of artisan cheeses and wood-fired breads at a dairy farm, lunch at a historic hotel, shopping at a quaint Sullivan County village, and dinner at a landmark Italian restaurant.
This is strictly a driving tour. And while there will be no element of competition involved, we will be driving on specially selected roads where owners will have the opportunity to fully exercise their cars. One of the highlights will be a drive along a famous stretch of winding road in Hawks Nest, NY, where countless BMW, Saab, and Volvo commercials and advertisements have been filmed.
Hope you can join us.

We had a nice turnout for this event, and the driving (both sightseeing and "spirited" ) was awesome! (Yes, all the cars parked along the curb were part of the event.)
Best regards,

No, no jokester on this tour... The guy in the Mini is a mechanic, and a friend of the tour organizer. He has been a part of the tour for several years, as insurance in case (and I know it's highly improbable ) an Alfa breaks down...
Best regards,

LM,
To add to what Enrique noted about the "Mini" guy:
-He's an excellent mechanic.
-He's apparently responsible for good luck. On the tours he's supported, no Alfas had
problems, so he just enjoyed the rolling Alfa museum. Full disclosure: an Alfa lost a head
gasket last year after the tour and I had one headlight low beam out and no brake lights on
my '65 Spider. But the car kept going, so ...
-It's not a Mini -- it's an Innocenti, so it was still an all-Italian tour.

Hey Jim ,
I think that's an excellent idea of the back door mechanic . The only thing I might suggest is a larger vehicle to carry more parts.
Regards, Fred
ps. 11 more months to the next Glenora Run
