Any D.C. Md. or NVA Gatherings?

I'm a new member, lurker if you will to the forum.Great info.

I own a 1972 Inka Orange BMW 2002 tii.

I hope to find the "right" GTV in the near future. Are there any local events in the near future? I'd like to meet some owners, find some shops and in short learn more about the 105's and Guilia Sedans to get on track for in order to buy one soon.
If there are any local "gurus" able to assist and direct me it would be greatly appreciated.
*April 12th having Vintage BMW Car and Bike show at Carpool in Herndon Va. Carpool Hub Local Alfisti are welcome to come and display. We BMW guys appreciate Alfas.
Thanks
Jonathan

Welcome aboard. Nice looking BMW--needs an Alfa for company! One DC Alfa Club is at Capital Chapter, Alfa Romeo Owners Club though I think there may be another site (have not actually joined even though I have owned an Alfa since 2001).

Where are you located in MD? BillS of the alfabb is extremely knowing about Alfas, especially the sedans. He is in Hagerstown. I have a '66 Super that I am bringing back to life as a nice-looking driver, but no concours level (Silver Spring).

Good shops that I know of are Milano Motors in Kensington (Julio keeps a lot of local Alfas running), Precision Tune in VA and there are others that a few have noted on this bb.

You may want to post to the Cars For Sale thread wrt your interest to purchase.

Good luck!

Hi and welcome! The Capital Chapter Alfa Romeo Club will be having its monthly meeting at Chiaparelli's Restaurant in Baltimore's Little Italy at 11:30 AM on Sunday, 10 February. You are most welcome to attend as is anyone who wishes to join us. After eating a nice Italian Brunch and talking club business, most of us will be heading over to the Baltimore Auto Show.

I will post a copy of our club calendar (subject to change) on another thread in this section. You don't need to be an AROC member to come and participate with us...but we encourage you to join AROC. As they say: Membership has its benefits!

There are lots of very knowledgeable Alfisti in the area! You are in luck there, my friend! Come meet with us if you can!

All-Italian Tour on April 27

An amazing event to come out to to see Alfas or for Alfisti to drive! Details below.

I highly recommend joining AROC and the Capital Chapter to anyone in the DC, MD, or NoVA area. Chapter President Harlan Hadley and his team have a slew of great events planned this year, including a silent auction of Alfa stuff at the Spring Fling on May 10, tech sessions, monthly dinner meetings... AROC membership is $60, and anyone who does not get $5 a month in fun from the Capital Chapter alone just needs to get out and join in and you will!

As to the car search that started this post, an elderly Chapter member's daughter has his very decent '72 GTV for sale for $6,000. Yes at that price it has some rust issues but it's a strong carbureted car worth investing in. Alfa-Base :: Alfa Project cars for sale!

Cheers,
Brewster

RADUNO PRIMAVERA: THE ALL ITALIAN CAR TOUR 2008

by Brewster Thackeray

Look out the window at the green buds on the trees, smell the warmth coming into the air, and behold the return of spring! Or as they say in Italy, the "raduno primavera."

AROC's Capital Chapter will throw its own Raduno Primavera, the Regional All-Italian Car Tour, on Sunday, April 27. This is the third consecutive year that this long-standing regional event will be hosted by our Chapter, along with our friends at Ferrari and Maserati of Washington, Lamborghini of Washington, and the other regional Italian marque clubs.

In recent years, more than 30 Alfa Romeos have attended this event, along with dozens of Fiats, Lancias, Ferraris, Maseratis and Lamborghinis. The lineup of over 100 cars at the start and finish is impressive, and in between a wide range of exotic machinery will traverse the backroads of Virginia and West Virginia.

Tour designer Sherry Thackeray and her trusty Spider sidekick Valentino have been tearing up the roads to find ones that will delight any Italian car driver or navigator/navigatrix. A big change from previous years is the starting point, which will be the Winery at La Grange in Haymarket, Virginia. This relatively new vineyard occupying an 18th century estate was opened by longtime friend of the Chapter Chris Pearmund--some AROC members took part either the Chapter Picnic he hosted a few years back at Pearmund Vineyards or at a casual car show last summer at LaGrange.

Lest any insurance agents fear, we will not be wine tasting at 9:30 am, just enjoying La Grange's lovely grounds to pose our cars on. Registration packets will include a coupon for a future free tasting. The best part about starting from LaGrange is that we will be in the country immediately--no need to start out on highways.

The tour will cover roughly 100 miles and take over two hours to drive. The Fiat Club has discussed repeating their popular gimmick rally series of questions. The tour will end at the Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini dealerships, where participants will enjoy lunch and awards for the best of each marque.

Anyone who has been on an all-Italian tour tends to mark their calendar well in advance. If you have not yet taken part, you really should! The sensation of lining up with all these beautiful cars, the memory of sharing a backroad with a Ferrari Testarossa, the sounds, and the socializing all make this event a wonderful day. All cars must be street legal and fully insured. Registration deadline is April 21. Late registration add $20.

Cost this year remains a very reasonable $30 per person, which includes a light breakfast and a pasta bar lunch, plus $5 per car. You can register online now at: The Complete Experience.

Registration and packet pick-up opens at La Grange at 8:30 on the 27th, with the driver's meeting at 9:30 and the start at 10:00. Because it is a new start location we encourage all Alfa people to be there by 9:00 to ensure adequate time to look at cars and get ready.

Registration questions should be directed to Redding Finney 703-478-3606 or email at rfinney@fwash.com.

Directions to La Grange:

From the Washington, DC beltway I-495: Approx driving time 30-40 minutes
Take I-66 west to Exit 40. Turn left at the top of the ramp onto US 15 South (James Madison Hwy). Turn right at the second traffic light on VA-55 (John Marshall Hwy). Just under 1 mile, turn right onto Antioch Road. La Grange is about 3 miles north on Antioch. Entrance is on the left.

Fuel: Nearest fueling station to La Grange is a Sheetz located on the south-east corner of the intersection of US 15 and VA-55.
