Autocars greatest sports cars 1995

This article is from a supplement Autocar published way back in 1995 of their 10 greatest sports cars.

Pretty cool that the little old Alfasud gets in there alongside cars like the Mcclaren F1 and Ferrari 250GTO

Cool. But to call the Series 1 ti a 'sports car' is a bit of a stretch of the imagination.

'the car that first invoked the spirit of the hot hatch'

... I think a few Mini Cooper S drivers might have something to say about that!!

To fully enjoy a series 1 Alfasud Ti required a high level of driver involvement that was very addictive and rewarding.
The driver had to warm up as well as the car and you really had to work it hard.
- revvy short stroke 1186cc motor with relativly large induction and exhaust, short gearing, light body with inboard handling, 2 stage carby.....and that beautiful interior with the embossed stiching effect on the dashtop and door trims and the narrow moulded seats....the sound, especially at high revs with throttle off...
Thats what a sports car is all about... regardless of speed
