window sealant
Hi all,
I recently got my car back from the crash shop after a total respray and fix up of accident damage, and they put the rear window back in after fixing some minor rust (the usual spot) but I am worried that the seal doesnt fit very tightly at the base of the glass and it will get wet I was thinking about removing the window and seal myself and re-sealing it using some sort of sealant, but I am unsure what to use.
Should I use the non hardening type or something that hardens up? I think if I used something like sikaflex it wont ever come out again if need be.
Any recommendations?

Hi
I got mine done about 5 months ago, they took the rear window out mine to fix the little bit of rust at each corner at the bottom of the window, they put the rubber back on but mu rubber also sits up a bit at each corner which i thought would cause moisture and water to get back in and rust again? I have just left it as i dont know what to do. Car looks good, i c u still have to put badges and mirrors etc on.

yeah its a bit furthur along now, most parts are back on now, but still looking for rear badges and a good spoiler that doesnt have the screws rusted in so I can get it painted up. my rear seal does sit up a bit in the corners too, IMO asking for the rust to return, water gets in and sits there!

windscreen sealant
black cauking compound stays soft and forms a skin only.
clean up with a rag soaked in mineral turps.
if you use silicone make sure its non acidic (neutral cure).
black silastic will eat through your paint and metal.

Yeah im open 2 suggestions as we are now getting into the wetter weather and at night condensation builds up on roof and back window/hatch.

If the rust was totally removed (cut out) and the drain tubes in the bottom corners put back in again it won't rust for a very long time; assuming that it was also sprayed from the inside of the boot. If there was any rust left it will come back regardless of whether it gets wet, just quicker that's all.

My rust was totally removed (I made sure it was) and there is a lot of paint on top of where it used to be...and creating a water tight seal will stop it from coming back..
anyone have any brands of compounds worth using? I thought of seam sealer whaich I have a tube of in the garage? it kind of stays soft...

cauLking compound
seam sealer , even though it stays flexible, cures all the way through.
whereas the caulking compound forms a skin and remains sticky on the inside for a long time.

ahh yeah, I remember seeing that picture of your sud a while back. Looks great. How did you apply it? Was it applied before the glass went in or did you squeeze the nozzle between the car and the seal and squirt it in?
Where does one purchase this EZYCAULK? I think you have convinced me.
How are the projects going enri? Did you sell the 77 Ti?

You may be able to squeeze some in with a skinny nozzel once the screen has been fitted but it is virtually impossible if you have the rubber mould with the chrome strip like in an erly sud.
Any auto parts store or auto paint place will have their equivelent to ezycaulk.
My old sud is now a melbourne car, and im sure the front windscreen isnt leaking! Lately i have been trying a 105 series, but i just sold it for another sud
