1.3 sud BHP possibility

What sort of BHP is it possible to attain from a 1975 1.3 alfasud 'normal' ?

There are a few cars for sale here, I'm half tempted, but would like to know how much it could be tweeked for fast road use and still remain reliable.

I have all the parts to re-build one sitting on the shelf, including various piston sets, be a shame not to....

How could the original engine be modded without much expense to obtain some real BHP?

The simpliest thing you can do is either change the carburetor with a bigger one or change the neddles in the current one with bigger.That will give you more power.... Also you can change the exchaust with one with ANSA type that will give you better performance.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with the 1.3 single carb engine.
To get any kind of meaningful performance would require a full engine out and rebuild, and if your going to do that you may as well rebuild at least 1.5 twin carb motor.
The cost would not be much greater considering that the cost machining/assembly/parts would be almost the same as a 1.5.

Thanks guys,I appreciate that a 1.5 or a 1.8 would do the job better, however the only boxer engines there are in Indonesia are the 1.3 . I have all the parts on the shelf to re-build a 1.3, I'm just curious about current and possible horsepower.
I also have a set of new Borgo pistons for the 1.3 that are much more deeply dished than the other sets.The box says ' 1 AC-CROMATO TI ' on it. Would these be lower compression over standard pistons?

Now I see what your getting at.
I suppose it depends of the amount of work you are prepared to do.
Are you prepared to convert to twin carbs? bigger cams etc etc.
There is a lot of options, so its hard to give you an estimate of the kind of hp you might see.
I would say with a bottom end rebuild, larger cams, twin carbs and some light head work you could pretty easily achieve 100 - 110 hp at the flywheel.

To answer your question about your pistons if there is a deeper dish than the original pistons they are most likely going to lower the compression ratio.

yep i think you'd squeeze 100hp at the flywheel from a 1.3, although it would require a lot of work, which you seem keen/able to do.

I think the best straight up power mods for the 1.3 would be a lumpy cam and twin carbs off a 1500.
