Alfa 33 quattro wagon
I was just thinking the other day about my next possible project and I was considering trying to convert a 33 wagon to rwd only.
I've got a p4 gearbox here that I've been looking at, and from what I can see the main shaft that runs the front diff just goes all the way through and runs out the back.
In the p4 it hooks upto a viscous coupling to provide the ever changing split, but in a 4x4 wagon, I assume the link is purely mechanical - so I was wondering what would happen if you disconnected the front drive shafts and engaged the 4x4 system, would it make the car purely rwd?
I'm curious, thinking of trying to make an alfa drift car. Ideas?

Use the series 3 gearbox instead, they're 4x4 as you say.
I'd be somewhat afraid to snap the driveshafts or blow the differential though. The 3 and 75/milano use the same support bearing so it might be a beefy axle back to the diff atleast...

with the p4, i had a front driveshaft fall off when braking into a corner, as soon as my foot came off the brake pedal, the rear wheels engaged.
look up alfa 33 drift on youtube, there is some crazy czech on there that has doctored a p4 gearbox to rwd only.

Use the driveshaft from the S2 4x4s, that one doesnt got a differential.. And disconnect the switch connected to the brakes, or else you wil lha a nonwheeldrive when you are braking..

I've got a Montecarlo Wagon here that needs a new home. The drivetrain is all mechanical so no need to mess with funky gearboxes or electronics.
I've had a look at the 33 drift video on youtube (1.7 16V) and I don't reckon the egine will have enough poswer for drifting. I saw some fairly feeble attempts from the modded car but no more than I've really seen from a fwd 33 and a skilled driver using the handbrake. However, a wagon (or sedan for that matter) with all the power going to the rear wheels would make a fun track car. Hmmm...

I'm still looking keith.
I may be able to get my hands on an lonely 16v
But your 33 sounds like it's in pretty good nick and a bit of history behind it, it would be a shame to gut it and turn it into a track car.
I was hoping for a car a little more run down
I'm also going to build a turbo 16v motor first.

i'd have to say NO to converting a wagon to rwd only. My car and undoubtedly all the rest of them have a small driveshaft and diff, this is not a concern as the car is distributing 95hp between 4 wheels. the 4wd is fantasically good fun and downright handy, i know my 33 will go a hell of a lot further than my mums sud.
Should you decide to convert a car to rwd only i think that the standard driveshaft and diff would fail fairly quickly under most high grip circumstances.

i am unsure of my cars exact model, as it does not feature some of the montecarlo's spec's such as driving light etc..
the car how ever does have 'QUADRIFOGLIA' written down the side, does this help?
all i know for sure is its a 4x4 33 wagon with a 95hp motor in it and its a great little all rounder.

I don't like the way the gearbox is in the back, it makes changing gears even worse then normal...
